Chapter 101 She Is Still My Sister

Jasper nodded slowly. “I know that much for certain.”

He heaved a heavy sigh right after. “Margaret was the one who dressed Crown Prince Christopher’s wound hat day. She was far too careless with her work.”

Stella pressed a hand to her mouth in feigned surprise, eyes wide with shock. “It’s true, Margaret tended to your injury back then. I cannot wrap my head around it, though. She still cares for you, Crown Prince Christopher. She would never let hurt feelings turn to malice and leave a dangerous wound untreated on purpose.”

Rage flashed across Christopher’s face, and he clenched his fists tight as he listened to the two of them. “So it was her. That hateful Margaret. I rushed to save her when she tried to leap off the cliff. I overlooked her reckless outbursts and let her act as she pleased. I’m the one who spared her life, and this is how she repays my kindness? How could she be so cruel?”

Christopher’s anger grew hotter with every word. “No wonder everyone mentioned she stuck me with dozens of needles that day. I questioned why she’d suddenly step forward to help me–her kindness was nothing but a trap. She neglected my wound on purpose, and now my entire arm is on the verge of ruin. She has no heart at all.”

He turned and prepared to storm outside.

Jasper stepped forward at once and held him back. “Crown Prince Christopher, do not let your temper get the better of you. Margaret did tend your wound, but she was frazzled and rushed that day. She only meant to help and made an honest mistake. She holds no ill intent toward you.”

‘Move out of my way.” Christopher shoved Jasper aside harshly. “She has harmed me, and a crime this severe calls for harsh punishment for her whole family. I will never let this offense slide.”

Stella hurried after him in an instant, her tone soft and pleading. “Crown Prince Christopher, please do not confront Margaret. Jasper is right–she likely acted with good intentions, even if things went wrong.”

“Good intentions?” Christopher snapped, burning with fury. “She nearly cost me my arm. She even struck you before now. How can you brush that harm aside so easily?”

Stella hung her head and put on a fragile, sorrowful expression. “I know Margaret still has feelings for you. She only acted out of fear and worry for you. Please leave her be. She is still my sister, after all.”

She paused for a brief moment, then spoke gently again. “Your arm is throbbing nonstop right now. Stay here and wait for the royal doctor to come. Will you stay for me?”

Christopher’s fiery anger dimmed a little as he looked at Stella’s soft, lovely face. “Very well. I will spare her this one time, for your sake. But if my arm is permanently broken because of her carelessness, I will not show her any mercy later on.”

Meanwhile, inside Bloomveil Court, Margaret stayed right by Winter’s side the second they returned to their quarters. She helped Winter lie down on her bed first, then carefully cleaned and treated every wound across her body.

Winter had been tied to that tree for a full day and night, and bright red rope burns covered her skin.

She’d also endured frigid wind through the dark hours, and her high fever flared back up without warning.

Winter’s eyes were red and swollen, thick with guilt. “Ms. Campbell, you should not wait on me like this. I am only a servant, and I can push through the pain. Please go rest and tend to yourself.”

“This is all my fault,” she mumbled weakly. “I’ve dragged you into more trouble again. Crown Prince Christopher and Mr. Jasper Campbell both blamed you because of my careless words. I truly thought the Crown Prince still held care for you. When your life hung in the balance, I could not stay quiet. I would never speak out of turn on normal days, but I had no other choice.”

Margaret pressed a fever remedy to her lips and helped her swallow it down. “Save your breath. I understand exactly what happened. They judge me constantly. A few more harsh words will not upset me.”

Tears rolled down Winter’s cheeks freely. “My heart aches for you. Ms. Stella Campbell openly plotted to take your life, yet no one will believe a single word we say. She has bullied you for years with petty tricks, but now she has crossed a deadly line. Crown Prince Christopher turns a blind eye to the truth, and Ms. Stella Campbell will surely try to hurt you again. We have no way to stop her.”

“Do not dwell on it,” Margaret smiled. “This is not your worry to carry. Focus only on healing your own body.”
