Chapter 100 Cut Away All Rotten Tissue

Christopher ground his teeth hard and clamped his free hand over the wounded arm in an instant.
Jasper asked in a worried tone. “Is your wound still throbbing with pain?”
A flash of panic flickered across Stella’s eyes, yet she masked it right away.
She fumbled quickly to unwrap the bandages around Christopher’s arm, and a gruesome, bloodied sight came into view.
Stella gasped in fright, “Crown Prince Christopher, your wound has festered deep beneath the skin.”
Every person in the yard froze the second those words were spoken.
Jasper and Christopher leaned in to check the injury at once. The flesh was raw and bleeding, and a foul, rotting stench hung thick in the air up close.
Christopher’s eyes widened in terror. “Send for the royal doctor at once.””

Jasper shook his head anxiously. “We have no royal doctor here on the estate grounds.”
Christopher grew frantic with worry. “Prepare my carriage. I must return to my place immediately.”
He turned to leave, then froze mid–step as a thought struck him.

pill healed me right away, but I’ve taken two now, and my condition only grows worse.”
Jasper frowned deeply in agreement. “Your wound healed instantly after the first dose. Now, after more medicine, it has festered and deteriorated. Stella, please check carefully–could you have mixed up your potions?”
Stella was overcome with flustered confusion. She had no idea why her trusted elixir had stopped working.
Nadia stepped forward softly from the side and said in an earnest voice, “Mr. Jasper Campbell, Crown Prince Christopher, please trust Ms. Stella Campbell. She studies remedies day in and day out and knows the healing arts far too well to make such a careless mistake.”
Jasper replied firmly, “We have never doubted Stella for a moment.”

Christopher nodded in urgency. “Stella, examine my wound and tell me what has gone wrong.”
Stella stared down at the mangled, infected injury. The rot had spread all the way down to the bone, a horrifying sight to behold. She could not bring herself to touch the decaying flesh.
Stella said slowly, “The flesh is too far gone. No antidote can heal festering tissue. The only way for the elixir to work is to cut away all the rotten flesh first.”
Christopher’s face drained of color in an instant. “What did you just say?”

Jasper stared in utter shock as well. “Stella, surely you do not mean that seriously?”

Stella shook her head solemnly. “I speak the truth. My master treated identical wounds in the past. He taught me that rotting flesh can never mend, no matter what medicine you use. The only way to survive is to scrape away every bit of decayed tissue, clean the wound thoroughly, and then take the antidote.”
Jasper saw how serious her expression was and believed her without question.
Christopher hesitated heavily. “The rot covers nearly half my arm. If that much flesh is cut away, will my arm ever fully heal again?”
Jasper wore a grave expression, too. “You are a trained warrior, Crown Prince Christopher. How could you ever wield a sword or fight again with such a severe injury?”
Stella said in a gentle, reasonable tone, “The injury is on your left arm. You will still manage daily tasks even if your left arm loses strength. Your sleeve will cover the scars, and no one will ever know what happened here today.”
She lowered her gaze slightly, her tone soft with false sorrow. “I hate the thought of causing you pain, but this is the only way to purge the poison for good.”
Christopher called out to his waiting attendants, “Fetch Patrick
immediately.”
One guard turned and rushed off to carry out the order. Christopher then looked back at Stella. “Do not fear. If this brutal procedure is truly necessary, I will not ask you to do it. Let Patrick handle such bloody work.”
Stella lifted her head, tears glistening in her eyes. “My heart aches for you, Crown Prince Christopher.”
Christopher softened at the sight of her tears and pulled her gently into his one good arm. “Do not cry. I am fine. Scars are only a mark of strength for any man. There is no need for you to be afraid.”
Jasper was long used to their affectionate displays. He waved a hand to dismiss every servant and maid from the courtyard, leaving only the three of them alone.
He then turned to Stella. “Are you absolutely certain there is no other cure?”
“Your condition improved greatly after the first elixir, and your pain vanished completely–that proves the antidote works,” Stella explained every detail with careful clarity. “The poison returned only because the original wound was never properly cleaned. We must cut away all rotten tissue and treat the injury from the start. Only then can the Silver Elixir take full effect.”
She added steadily, “You know the true power of the Silver Elixir, Jasper. It cures many toxins.”
