Chapter 109 Nothing but the Truth

Darren was drenched in cold sweat, his expression grave. “His arm can still be saved, if I do all that is needed. Crown Prince Christopher will have to endure great pain along the way. Still, if we can find the skilled doctor who first treated his poison, his suffering could be far less severe.”
Jasper still clung to his own belief and pressed on. “It was Stella’s elixir that pulled Crown Prince Christopher from death’s door. Could you not examine that remedy one more time, Mr. Kingston? No one knew its full power before now. Perhaps it still holds the strength to cure this toxin…”
“Mr. Jasper Campbell, you are a thoughtful man.” Darren looked at him with heavy weariness. “You know I never speak without proof. Would I lie about a matter this serious?”
Jasper’s mind reeled with shock, yet he forced himself to stay calm. “But—”
“You told me Margaret was the one who used acupuncture on him that day, correct?” Darren asked in a serious, steady tone.
Jasper cut in quickly, urgency edging into her voice, “Yes, but Margaret has never studied healing arts. She acted with no skill or reason back then. Her needles were random and careless. She is not the one who broke this poison.”
Darren let out a long sigh and shook his head repeatedly.
Jasper said cautiously, “You may speak your mind freely, Mr. Kingston.”
“It seems she is not your blood sister, or you would not doubt her so deeply–and ignore the truth of my words.” Darren quietly put away his silver needles after speaking.
Jasper rushed to correct him at once. “That is not true, Mr. Kingston. Margaret is my sister. She is only wild and stubborn by nature, which makes it hard for others to trust her. I care for both sisters equally.”
He paused, then added earnestly, “I hold your healing skills in the highest regard–that is why I brought Crown Prince Christopher to you. Yet when it comes to Margaret…”
“If she was the only one to use acupuncture on him that day, then she is undoubtedly the one who subdued his poison.” Darren’s tone left no room for doubt. “I stake the entire reputation of Life Preserve Pavilion on this truth. I have faced this deadly toxin many times before, and its power is far more brutal than any of you understand.”
He glanced over at Christopher, who lay weak in the bed. “If she had not acted fast to contain the poison in his body back then, Crown Prince Christopher would have died from the toxin long before now.”
Every word landed heavily in the quiet room, and Jasper finally understood the full truth.
His legs went weak, and he sank down onto a nearby chair, pure shock etched across his face. “How is this possible? She has never known how to use acupuncture… How could this be?”
Stella’s eyes darted wildly around the room, her heart torn apart by panic and rage.
That plain, useless girl truly saved Crown Prince Christopher?

She could never have such talent.
My elixir was supposed to be his saving grace.
This cannot be real.
It simply cannot.
She burned to argue against Darren’s words, yet a harsh outburst would ruin her gentle, soft image.
Nadia waited outside the chamber doors, with no way to speak for her or defend her lies.
Stella twisted her hands in her lap, trapped and desperate.
Christopher sat frozen, completely stunned and numb.
“She saved me? How?” he whispered in disbelief.
He still could not bring himself to accept the truth.

Yet Darren’s skill was famous across all of Breston. The sharp pain in his arm had faded completely under Darren’s acupuncture.
Everyone in the kingdom trusted Darren’s judgment, and his words carried unshakable truth.
“Margaret was the one who saved me,” Christopher mumbled hollowly, his body rigid and lifeless.
Stella reached out and grabbed Jasper’s arm in a quiet plea. “Jasper…”
“We may have all been wrong.” Jasper’s voice was slow and heavy, cutting straight through Stella’s weak plea. “Crown Prince Christopher’s life was saved by Margaret that day.”
Stella saw the clear regret in his eyes, and anger flared hot inside her chest. She bit her tongue hard and forced her rage back down.
She asked, “Do you truly believe every word Mr. Kingston says?”
Jasper finally turned to face her, his gaze blank and defeated. “He has no reason to lie. Every point he makes holds solid truth. Your elixir eased his pain at first, yet it failed soon after, A true antidote would never fade so quickly, Margaret is the one who pulled him from death’s grasp.
“Margaret told us nothing but the truth. She warned us that lingering poison still remained in his body, and we all refused to listen. We mocked her and blamed her for reckless harm, even as she tried to help.”
Jasper’s expression darkened with heavy guilt.
His voice grew lower with every word. “Mr. Kingston’s proof cannot be denied, Margaret’s acupuncture is what kept Crown Prince Christopher alive. She finished her treatment right as he took your elixir, and that small mix of events created this terrible misunderstanding.”
