Jasper still clung to his own belief and pressed on. “It was Stella’s elixir that pulled Crown Prince Christopher from death’s door. Could you not examine that remedy one more time, Mr. Kingston? No one knew its full power before now. Perhaps it still holds the strength to cure this toxin…”

“Mr. Jasper Campbell, you are a thoughtful man.” Darren looked at him with heavy weariness. “You know I never speak without proof. Would I lie about a matter this serious?”

Jasper’s mind reeled with shock, yet he forced himself to stay calm. “But—”

“You told me Margaret was the one who used acupuncture on him that day, correct?” Darren asked in a serious, steady tone.

Jasper cut in quickly, urgency edging into her voice, “Yes, but Margaret has never studied healing arts. She acted with no skill or reason back then. Her needles were random and careless. She is not the one who broke this poison.”

Darren let out a long sigh and shook his head repeatedly.

Jasper said cautiously, “You may speak your mind freely, Mr. Kingston.”

“It seems she is not your blood sister, or you would not doubt her so deeply–and ignore the truth of my words.” Darren quietly put away his silver needles after speaking.

Jasper rushed to correct him at once. “That is not true, Mr. Kingston. Margaret is my sister. She is only wild and stubborn by nature, which makes it hard for others to trust her. I care for both sisters equally.”

He paused, then added earnestly, “I hold your healing skills in the highest regard–that is why I brought Crown Prince Christopher to you. Yet when it comes to Margaret…”

“If she was the only one to use acupuncture on him that day, then she is undoubtedly the one who subdued his poison.” Darren’s tone left no room for doubt. “I stake the entire reputation of Life Preserve Pavilion on this truth. I have faced this deadly toxin many times before, and its power is far more brutal than any of you understand.”

He glanced over at Christopher, who lay weak in the bed. “If she had not acted fast to contain the poison in his body back then, Crown Prince Christopher would have died from the toxin long before now.”
