They figured it did no harm to let you try anything you pleased–and Crown Prince Christopher chose to endure your reckless treatment.”

He spoke with blunt honesty, never pausing the steady movement of his hands as he adjusted the needles. “I tend to speak plainly, so I ask that you take no offense, Ms. Stella Campbell. The wound is far too large and difficult to treat right now, and that is the only reason I voice my frustration so openly.”

His words left everyone in the room frozen and speechless.

Stella’s legs went weak beneath her, and she sank heavily into a nearby chair as tears rolled down her cheeks one after another.

Jasper stared in utter shock, his voice unsteady. “Mr. Kingston, is every word you’ve said the truth?”

“I am only a common doctor with no noble title.” Darren kept his tone humble and reserved. “I would never dare speak lies in front of Crown Prince Christopher.”

He is the future ruler of this realm, after all.

Christopher stared blankly into the distance, a sudden question weighing on his mind. “That day, you all said Margaret pricked me with needles and removed my outer clothes. Could it be… she was truly using acupuncture to treat my poison?”

Jasper shook his head in clear disbelief. “That cannot be. I have known Margaret her whole life, and she has never once learned the healing arts or acupuncture.”

Stella cut in quickly, throwing all caution and dignity aside, “Margaret knows nothing about medicine at all. She stuck random needles into your body while you lay unconscious that day, nothing more than empty, fake gestures. She dressed your wound carelessly, left deadly poison trapped beneath the skin, and made the infection spread far and wide.”

Jasper looked at her flustered, rambling state, and a strange, unfamiliar look crossed his face for the first time. “Margaret has always been stubborn and difficult, but…”

“This poison targets toxins in the body, not the surface wound itself.” Darren’s tone was firm and matter- of–fact. “Stopping the bleeding and keeping the wound small is all that matters for minor surface damage. Those simple cuts only need basic care, just like any ordinary injury. The real danger lies in clearing the leftover poison trapped deep inside the body. That is why acupuncture is the only effective cure–no ordinary medicine can neutralize this toxin, as every skilled doctor across the realm well knows.”

He let out a quiet sigh of frustration. “A dirty, poorly cleaned wound could never make this poison spread so rapidly. The infection only worsened because the acupuncture treatment was never finished. The lingering poison never fully left his system, and that is why his injury refused to heal all this time.”

Darren wiped the sweat from his forehead and muttered under his breath, “I cannot fathom how someone could ask such foolish questions.”

A heavy silence settled over the chamber.

He added plainly, “I know of that elixir everyone talks about. It sells for a thousand gold crowns, yet it holds no power against this specific deadly poison.”

Stella opened her mouth to argue again. “You are wrong, Mr. Kingston–you simply do not understand…”

Darren cut her off, “If you cannot calm your temper, I suggest you step outside and wait.”

Stella clamped her mouth shut at once, no longer daring to speak out of turn.

Darren showed her no mercy with his next words. “I know you crave the honor of being known as Crown Prince Christopher’s savior, but your medicine had no part in slowing this poison. Think for a moment. If your elixir was a true cure, why did it stop working only days later? Any clear mind could see the truth. A real antidote would never fail halfway through treatment.”
