Jasper burned with shame under her words. “I truly was wrong to misunderstand you. I offer you my sincere apology. We are blood siblings–please do not hold this anger against me.”

His tone carried far more genuine sincerity this time.

Margaret smirked faintly as she fixed her gaze on him. “Do you mean this apology from the bottom of your heart, Jasper?”

“I do,” Jasper replied firmly.

“Then you must know just how deeply you’ve wronged me.” Margaret’s stare remained steady.

Jasper furrowed his brows. “I failed to trust you after you saved Crown Prince Christopher-”

“This is not the only wrong I speak of,” Margaret cut in coldly. “You have misunderstood me countless times over the years.”

A flicker of helplessness crossed Jasper’s face. “Margaret, why must you be so unforgiving? I came to you with honest regret.”

“How can your regret be real, when you still speak like this?” Margaret’s tone turned sharp. “If you truly recognized your faults, you would know exactly where you went wrong. Your mistake is not simply misjudging me, or believing I harmed Crown Prince Christopher, or letting Stella take credit for my deeds.”

She spoke in a cold, steady voice. “Your greatest flaw is your failure to see people for who they truly are. Stella is the one behind every cruel act, yet you always place every blame and every ugly truth on my shoulders. This is not a one–time mistake–it is how you have treated me my entire life.

“You only ever see my sharp attitude, yet you never stop to ask how you’ve treated me all these years. Every time Stella cried, you shouted at me and punished me without a second thought. When Stella fell, you struck me. When Stella wept, you scolded me. She ran from the betrothal of her own will, yet you forced me to take her place—and blamed me every day for losing her.

“You are not blind. You knew full well Stella would spend her life trapped in a miserable marriage if Crown Prince Christopher had been crippled. Still, you sent me to face that fate without a single ounce of guilt. Ask yourself honestly–have you ever truly seen me as your sister?

“I was the one who stayed by Crown Prince Christopher’s side through his slow recovery. I stood with him as he rose from prince to Crown Prince. And then, by pure coincidence, Stella returned right as everything fell into place for her.”

A bitter laugh escaped her. “If I had done even a fraction of what Stella has done, you and Father would have torn me apart with harsh words. When Stella is at fault, you believe every weak excuse she offers. You never reproach her, yet you blame me for every loss and every hardship. Have you no conscience at all?

“Now Stella has everything she ever wanted–her place as Crown Princess, all her heart’s desires granted. What do I have? Nothing. I endure your cold, bitter remarks day after day. Now you come to me and say you are sorry, only for this one misunderstanding? You have wronged me far more than once.”

Margaret stared directly at Jasper after pouring out every ounce of her suppressed rage. “Would you like to know the truth? Stella kidnapped Winter and took her to the cliff. She planned to force me to jump to my death and make it look as if I’d taken my own life. I chose to walk back through the main gates with Winter for one reason only–I wanted all of you to see how weak and broken Winter was that day. I’ve waited to watch your faces crumble the moment the full truth comes out.”

Jasper froze completely, stunned and lost. “I never knew you carried so much pain in your heart, Margaret, but-”

“Do you truly not know, or do you simply choose to look away?” Margaret’s gaze was laced with contempt. “Not long ago, you forced me to confess in the family prayer hall for hours. I spoke these same words then, and you ignored every single one.”

She waved a hand dismissively. “If you have nothing else to say, leave. Take your chicken soup with you.”

Jasper clenched his jaw tightly. “I know you hurt, but you only ever focus on your own suffering. You complain about Stella endlessly, yet she never speaks a word against you. How can anyone trust your word? You claim Stella kidnapped Winter to harm you…”

“I know you will never believe me,” Margaret said plainly, pointing toward the door. “Save your breath and leave.”

Jasper drew in a deep, heavy breath. “I refused to believe it before, but now I see it clearly. That group of men who attacked us today–you sent them, didn’t you?”
