Jasper said, “Margaret, I came here today to apologize, not to upset you. Let us speak calmly.”

“What is there left to talk about?” Margaret shot back sharply. “Is this truly the attitude of someone offering an apology? Stella is the one behind every wicked deed, yet you pin all the blame on me without a second thought. You hide your bias behind empty kindness. How is this any different from all the times you’ve wrongfully judged me before?”

Jasper’s expression fell. “I…”

“Let me ask you plainly.” Margaret stared him down. “If your apology is sincere, what punishment do you plan for Stella? She lied to everyone, stole my credit for days, and twisted the truth to harm me. Does she face no consequences at all?”

The mention of Stella left Jasper clearly conflicted. “I am the one who misunderstood you. Stella and Crown Prince Christopher bear no blame for this mistake. Their actions should not be held against them.”

A flicker of guilt crossed his face after he spoke.

“You may be right,” Jasper sighed softly. “Crown Prince Christopher’s heart has never belonged to you. Father and I have overlooked you for far too many years. I will never punish you unjustly again, and I will try my best to treat you both fairly. You are sisters, after all. I only wish for you two to live in peace. Let all the pain and mistakes of the past stay buried.”

Margaret fell silent, too tired and frustrated to argue further.

After a long pause, Jasper added slowly, “There is one thing that might lift your spirits. You know Mr. Kingston, right? He never intended to invite Stella to join Life Preserve Pavilion. His offer was always meant for you. He reminded me again and again today to convince you to accept his invitation.”

Margaret rolled her eyes, her gaze full of obvious disdain.

“You once claimed he wanted Stella,” Margaret said flatly. “If his opinion matters so much to you, send Stella instead. You are so eager to help her gain fame and recognition.”

“You speak without sense.” Jasper frowned, “Life Preserve Pavilion only accepts the most skilled doctors in the realm. No ordinary person can gain entry. If you join, you will be their first female practitioner. Your reputation will change entirely. Even with your fat figure, countless noble lords will seek your hand in marriage.
