Winter shook her head anxiously right after. “No, that won’t work. If you run off, Mr. Timothy Campbell will only grow angrier. What are we supposed to do now?”

Margaret stayed calm and composed in contrast. “Everyone knows we all went back to our separate rooms to sleep last night. No one can prove I was the one who hurt her.”

She stretched lazily. “Come on, then. Let’s go watch the drama unfold.”

Winter fidgeted nervously. “But… very well.”

The two of them headed for the main hall in the end.

Sad, soft sobs from Stella echoed through the doorway the moment they arrived.

Stella grew even more hysterical the second Margaret stepped inside. “Father, you have to protect me. I thought my face would be ruined forever.”

Timothy sat on the main seat, his expression dark and stormy. “Margaret, what do you have to say for yourself?”

Stella sat on a side chair, her head bowed as she cried nonstop.

Margaret was about to speak when Jasper rushed in from outside. “Father, Margaret did not lay a hand on her. I can prove it–Margaret went to bed early last night.”

His sudden arrival shocked everyone in the room, including Timothy and Stella.

Stella stared at him in disbelief. “Jasper, why do you keep taking her side lately? She beat me again. You don’t have to believe me, but why would you defend her like this?”

“Enough, Stella.” Jasper looked at her with cold unfamiliarity, disappointed and frustrated. “You tripped and fell yesterday. Your face was perfectly fine then, and Margaret had already gone back to her quarters to rest. Your face suddenly swelled up out of nowhere today. How can you claim she’s to blame?”

Stella’s chest tightened with suppressed anger. “She used some strange trick to harm my face. She-”

“Prince Theodore has arrived.”

The sudden announcement startled everyone in the hall. Even Timothy stood up at once, eyes wide with

shock.

Before anyone could recover, a tall figure stepped through the entrance.

Every servant and maid in the room knelt on one knee instantly.

“Greetings, Prince Theodore.”

Timothy dropped to one knee in a hurry. “We offer our deepest apologies for the late welcome, Prince

Margaret had been the first to kneel. Theodore walked past her and reached down to help her stand. He then moved to the main seat and sat down, drawing gasps of surprise from everyone present.

His gaze was cold and empty, and he made no gesture to dismiss the kneeling crowd after sitting.

Timothy opened his mouth awkwardly, ready to speak, but Stella cut him off first.

‘Prince Theodore, you must give me justice,” Stella sobbed bitterly. “Ever since Margaret gained your protection, she has grown reckless and arrogant around the estate. She beats and insults me freely, all while hiding behind your name. How is this any different from abusing your authority to act without consequence?”

Everyone knew Theodore hated anyone who used his title to cause trouble.

She fully expected Margaret to suffer his wrath.

Her cries were loud and heartbroken. Jasper spoke up in alarm beside her. “Stella, stop speaking nonsense.”

Timothy added quickly, “Please pay no mind to Stella’s reckless words, Prince Theodore. They are merely sisters bickering. The matter is not nearly as serious as she claims.”

Stella grew frantic. “Father, Jasper, I know you only care for our family’s reputation. But she only acts this way because she once saved Prince Theodore, and-”

‘Drag her away. Thirty lashes,” Theodore said, his tone cold and final.

Two guards stepped in immediately. They grabbed Stella without hesitation and dragged her outside.

Everything happened in the blink of an eye. By the time the others processed his order, heart–wrenching screams rang out from the courtyard.

Timothy snapped back to his senses first. “Prince Theodore, what offense has Stella committed to deserve such harsh punishment? Thirty lashes are far too much for her to endure.”

Worry filled Jasper’s eyes as well. “Please calm your anger, Prince Theodore. Stella and Margaret only exchanged a few harsh words. Stella speaks carelessly and exaggerates the truth. Please do not hold her words to heart.”

He glanced toward Margaret, his look a silent plea for her to beg for Stella’s mercy.
