Chapter 139 Then Hold Your Tongue

“You oversee state affairs from dawn till dusk,” Theodore said in a calm, cold tone. “You need not concern yourself with household turmoil.”
He added sharply, “I made my stance clear long ago–Margaret is under my protection. Anyone who harms her shall face death without mercy. Yet some still choose to act foolishly…”
“Prince Theodore, you misunderstand!” Jasper cut in anxiously before Theodore could finish. “Margaret’s lashing was caused by Crown Prince Christopher’s false accusation. All blame falls on me, not Stella.”
Even after seeing Stella’s true nature, Jasper could not bear to watch her suffer.
Theodore turned a cold gaze toward him. “If the fault is yours, then drag him out as well.”
Two more guards stepped forward at once, seizing Jasper and pulling him into the courtyard.
Jasper’s face paled in terror. “Prince Theodore, I beg your mercy! I know my wrongs!”
Pained screams echoed outside right after.
Cyan bowed his head and asked quietly, “Prince Theodore, shall he also receive thirty lashes?”
Theodore nodded, then looked straight at Margaret. “Come here.”
Margaret snapped out of her daze and walked slowly toward him.
“Sit,” Theodore said, his tone softening faintly. “I have waited for you for a long while. You were delayed by these petty household troubles.”
His casual words left everyone in the hall stunned and speechless.
No one could believe their ears–Theodore had been waiting for Margaret and even came here personally to find her.

Timothy knelt on one knee, trembling on the floor, sweat dripping down his forehead, “Prince Theodore, my children…”
“They are your flesh and blood,” Theodore replied coldly. “You have failed to discipline them properly, so I shall correct your mistakes for you. Do you dare object?”
“I would never dare,” Timothy answered quickly.
Theodore raised an eyebrow. “Then hold your tongue, Anyone who pleads for their mercy shall be punished alongside them.”
A heavy silence fell over the entire hall.
Once the sounds of suffering outside faded completely, Theodore spoke again. “Mr. Timothy Campbell, I

know you have no time for family matters amid your official duties. Still, you cannot ignore the bitter hatred between your daughters. Stella once left Margaret to die in the frozen mountains. Later, she plotted to hurl Margaret off a deadly cliff. I have spared her life only out of respect for you. Choose your actions wisely going forward.”
He stood and headed for the door. Follow me.”
Margaret froze for a moment, then hurried after him.
Timothy stammered nervously, “Prince Theodore, I do not understand what you mean…*
Theodore did not glance back. He reached out and took Margaret’s hand, walking out of the hall together.
In the courtyard, servants helped a shaking, unsteady Jasper to his feet.
Stella lay crumpled on the ground, her swollen face covered in tear stains, motionless and defeated.
Every servant bowed their heads in fear, terrified of drawing Theodore’s wrath.
Jasper stared blankly at Margaret’s retreating figure, his eyes fixed on their intertwined hands.
Am I delirious from the pain?
