Said No to the Prince and Yes to the King novel Chapter 16

Rejected by the Crown Prince? 1 Marned His Uncle

Chapter 16 A Debt of Gratitude

When had Darren ever met Stella?

Flushed

But surely he couldn’t be referring to Margaret, So Jasper said, “My younger sister is gentle, kind, well- mannered, and truly compassionate. However, she is, after all, just a young woman

Half the world’s weight is carried by women. Besides, your sister’s medical skills are extraordinary. I believe she deserves it.”

Seeing the genuine admiration in Darren’s eyes, Jasper took a deep breath. It’s rare to see you hold someone in such high regard. I couldn’t possibly refuse. Since you’ve personally extended this invitation, I’ll certainly speak with her when I return. If she’s willing, I’ll bring her to see you myself.

Excellent.

Darren sipped his water. With your word, I am reassured. If your sister joins us, it will surely be a mutually beneficial arrangement.”

Jasper nodded slightly. Indeed.

If Stella could join the Life Preserve Pavilion, it would be wonderful for both her and the entire family.

If he recalled correctly, she would be the youngest physician in the Pavilion’s historyand a woman at that. That alone would make Stella’s reputation soar!.

Meanwhile, Margaret had slowly made her way back to the vicinity of the Prime Minister’s Estate.

She was about to head directly home when she spotted a dying man in black by the roadside.

He was slumped at the entrance to a dark alley. If she hadn’t looked closely, she might have missed him entirely.

Passing the alley, she glanced again. Yes, definitely a personand he seemed to be bleeding

Help me

The man spoke weakly. He sounded like a youth of eighteen or nineteen.

Margaret looked around. There were few people nearby. He was speaking to her.

She initially thought to mind her own business, but he called out again, Help me

Margaret finally stopped.

She was a healer. She couldn’t just ignore someone begging for help.

She turned back and approached the youth, studying him carefully. Her gaze settled on his abdomen.

The clothes over his stomach were soaked with bloodas if he’d been stabbed there

Discreetly, she retrieved a painkilling pill from her space, knelt, and placed it in his hand.

Chapter 16 A Debt of Gratitude

Finished

The youth lifted his eyes weakly, staring at her with wary suspicion.

This’ll stop the pain. Stop the bleeding too.She held up her empty hands. You’re masked up, so I won’t try to feed you. Take it yourself.

One hand gripping the pill, the youth covered his face with the other, as if fearing she might suddenly tear off his mask.

Margaret stepped back. You’ve got enough energy for that, so you’re probably fine. Take the medicine and get out of here. It’s broad daylightI saw you. Someone else will too. And then-

Before she could finish, the man in black suddenly scrambled to his feet, clutching his stomach, and dashed deeper into the alley

In moments, he vanished from sight..

Margaret rolled her eyes. If you can run that fast, why cry for help?

Just go home!

Shaking her head, she continued on her way back home.

Deep in the alley, the man in black cautiously lowered his mask. After a moment’s hesitation, he swallowed the pill.

Within seconds, a strange sensation coursed through his body.

He suddenly realizedthe pain was gone.

What was this medicine?

So incredible

Back at the Prime Minister’s Estate, Margaret immediately sensed something amiss.

Nearly every servant she passed gave her a meaningful look, studying her from head to toe. When she glared back, they’d timidly lower their heads.
