Chapter 15 The Cracks Begin to Show
Jasper was so furious he could barely contain himself.
But before he could utter a word, Margaret had already vanished into the distance….
Too many people. He couldn’t make a scene. So he just watched her go, rage burning in his chest.

Stella’s tears fell silently. “Jasper, I don’t understand why Margaret has become like this. If I’d known it would come to this, no matter how much I love the Crown Prince, I would never have competed with her…
Jasper exhaled heavily. “It’s not your fault.”
Stella’s shoulders trembled with sobs. “Maybe I should just… step aside. Let him marry only her. Maybe then she’d stop hating me. I can’t keep living like this–being her target. If sacrificing myself could fix our family…
An inexplicable emotion stirred in Jasper’s chest. “She’s already dissolved the engagement.”
Stella froze. “What?”
She forced a bitter laugh. “Jasper, don’t say that. Everyone knows how deeply Margaret loves the Crown Prince. She couldn’t possibly-”
“It’s true. So her anger toward us isn’t solely about the Crown Prince.”
He paused, then sighed, “Ultimately, I’ve neglected her too much. That’s why she’s become like this…”
Trailing off, he walked away.
But Stella stood rooted to the spot, unable to process what she’d heard.
Margaret had given up the Crown Prince?
Impossible…
And just now–had Jasper actually felt sympathy for Margaret?
No!
She wouldn’t allow it!
She needed to crush any such notions forming in Jasper’s mind!
Lost in thought, she didn’t notice Nadia approaching. “Miss, Mr. Campbell encountered Mr. Kingston of
the Life Preserve Pavilion and was invited. He instructed me to escort you home first…”
Stella snapped back to reality and nodded faintly.
“What’s
‘s wrong with that fat cow?” Nadia muttered. “Did hitting her head on the way down the cliff scramble her brains?”

Stella bit her lip, recalling how Margaret had just threatened her…
Clearly, she’d been too lenient with Margaret!
She needed a plan–one that would ensure Margaret could never recover, that she’d be scorned by everyone forever.
She hadn’t walked far when a sharp pain shot through her shoulder, like a needle prick…
She rubbed it absently and continued on her way.
Meanwhile, Jasper had just met with Darren of the Life Preserve Pavilion.
Darren greeted him with a warm smile, clapping him heartily on the shoulder. “Mr. Campbell, you have quite an admirable sister!”
Jasper managed a polite smile, settling into his seat. “Mr. Kingston, what brings this on?”
Darren chuckled, “Half the capital’s been talking about your sister today. Surely you’ve heard?”
Jasper’s expression flickered. His first thought was that Margaret had disgraced herself again…
But before he could respond, Darren continued, “I’ll admit–I never paid her much attention before. But after today? I’m deeply impressed. I was actually planning to invite you to discuss this. Fate must have brought us together.” His eyes twinkled. “You don’t mind me intruding?”
Jasper shook his head. “Mr. Kingston, you flatter me. Years ago, when my fever wouldn’t break, you saved my life. Over the years, you’ve tended to every illness in our household. If anything, we should apologize for troubling you so often,” He spoke sincerely.
After all, the elderly man before him was no ordinary physician.
As the founder of the Life Preserve Pavilion, he owned nearly half the medical clinics in the capital. Moreover, the Kingston family had practiced medicine for generations–more than ten of his ancestors had served as imperial physicians. His own reputation was legendary, and he was held in high esteem by every noble family.
Even the people from the Prime Minister’s Estate treated him with respect.
As Jasper reflected, Darren smiled and said, “You’ve never been a bother. In fact… I have a favor to ask.”
