Chapter 171 Laughed in Sheer Exasperation

Christopher cared far too much about his pride, dragging his feet all this time and refusing to humble himself to ask for her help.
Now that Darren had fallen ill, he got the perfect excuse to save face–a convenient way to back down gracefully.
But what could a servant even do about it?
Even when he saw the whole truth plainly laid out, all he could do was beg Christopher to keep his voice down.
Christopher paid no heed to the servant’s pleas. He waved a hand, and his attendants stepped forward at once to drag the young man away.
The servant panicked completely. “Crown Prince Christopher, Mr. Kingston needs quiet rest! I beg you to have mercy.”
The wooden door was kicked open with a loud bang.
Christopher strode inside without a trace of restraint. “Margaret, come out and examine me first.”
Margaret had been straightening Darren’s clothes beside the bed.
She wiped the sweat from her forehead before turning around.
Not seeing the young servant anywhere, she walked to the doorway and called out toward the hall. “I just gave him a few acupuncture pricks. He’s stable for now, but no one can say when he’ll wake–it all depends on his own constitution. Come inside and look after him properly. We’re stepping outside to talk.”
With that, she walked straight out of the room.
The freed servant broke away from the attendants‘ grip and hurried back into the chamber,
Christopher had only come here looking for Margaret anyway. He followed her out without hesitation.
Outside the room stretched a long corridor leading to the staircase below.
Just as Margaret was about to head down the stairs, Christopher stepped forward quickly and grabbed her wrist. “Do you plan to keep ignoring me forever?”
Margaret pulled her wrist free and gave him a formal bow. “Greetings, Crown Prince Christopher.”
Her cold, distant attitude left Christopher seething with irritation. “You heard every word I said just now. My poison injury still hasn’t fully healed, Darren has been treating me all along, and now that he’s gravely ill, it’s only right for you to take his place. Come with me.”
Without waiting for Margaret’s reply, he tugged her along toward the far end of the corridor.
Margaret struggled to pull free, but he dragged her into a private ward anyway. “This is my exclusive private chamber–no one will disturb us here. Darren said your treatment can cure my arm at once, so

you have to help me.”
A faint flush crossed his face as he spoke, clearly embarrassed by his own request.

Margaret let out a cold laugh. “So you’re just going to pretend none of what happened before ever took place? How can you act like it’s only natural to order me to treat you?”
Christopher sat down at a nearby table, his manner haughty and arrogant. “I am Crown Prince. When I command you to heal me, you have no choice but to obey…”
Margaret cut him off plainly, “I’m sorry, but I’m now Prince Theodore’s personal healer. I only attend to him alone. Even if you try to force me, you’ll need Prince Theodore’s permission first.”
Christopher clenched his fists tightly. “Are you truly his personal healer, or just his favored mistress?”
Margaret’s expression turned stern. “Watch your wording, Crown Prince Christopher.”
Christopher scoffed, “Why should I hold back? Do you think I know nothing? He dared to take your hand right in front of me that day. Everyone knows you are my betrothed, yet you blatantly rode in another man’s carriage–right before my eyes. Have you any regard for my dignity at all?”
