Chapter 197 I Don’t Want to Leave You
The moment Baxter finished speaking, Cyan turned to glance at Theodore, his look pleased.
It’s all just a misunderstanding.
Theodore’s expression softened at once, his mood lightening for no clear reason.

Baxter went on, “Back then, Ms. Campbell chided Crown Prince Christopher a little and meant to take her leave, but he stopped her cold. He even forced her into a private chamber and locked her inside.”
Theodore’s brows drew tight. “A chamber?”
“It was Crown Prince Christopher’s exclusive recovery chamber on the second floor of Life Preserve Pavilion,” Baxter explained. “He seemed set on forcing improper advances on her. In the end, Ms. Campbell escaped by leaping out the window. I even heard her say firmly that she held no affection for Crown Prince Christopher any longer.”
“She leaped from a window just to get away from him?” Cyan exclaimed in surprise. “It seems she truly care’s nothing for Crown Prince Christopher now.”
As he spoke, he shot Theodore a meaningful glance.
Theodore only stared calmly at Baxter. “What else happened?”
“I could not bear to watch Crown Prince Christopher behave so shamelessly,” Baxter said. “I lost my patience and stepped in to teach him a lesson. I was not seen by anyone.”
He paused, then bowed his head respectfully. “I acted recklessly. Please punish me, Prince Theodore.”
“Withdraw,” Theodore said evenly, not so much as mentioning punishment.
After Baxter took his leave, Cyan said thoughtfully, “Word has it Crown Prince Christopher has relied on Mr. Kingston’s acupuncture to ease his pain these days. His entire arm has lost all strength, and no one knows when the poison in his body will be fully purged.”
He paused, then added, “I’ve also heard he’s fallen over several times lately. Each time he gets back up, he walks with a limp, as if his legs are growing weak and stiff. Though he hides it well most days, sharp–eyed folk have noticed his limbs slowly turning rigid.
“This is likely why he is so desperate to seek out Ms. Campbell now. After all, Ms. Campbell’s medical skill has won not only your high regard but also Mr. Kingston’s. She is far more skilled than the imperial physicians in the palace.”
“He brought this all on himself,” Theodore said coldly.
Cyan nodded. “Indeed. If Crown Prince Christopher is left crippled once more, it will be no more than he deserves.”
Theodore smiled, “The weather has been quite pleasant lately.”
Cyan blinked in confusion and glanced up at the overcast sky, utterly baffled by the odd remark.

Finished
Over at the Sweet Breeze Dining, up in a quiet window booth on the second floor, Margaret sipped cup after cup of honey water.
Winter looked troubled. “Ms. Campbell, have you been staying here day after day lately?”
‘Yes.”
Why not go back to the estate to rest?” Winter asked. “If Mr. Timothy Campbell finds out, he will surely lecture you again…
‘As long as we keep quiet, he will never know,” Margaret replied calmly. “Besides, don’t you find it dreadfully dull being cooped up in the estate all day?”
‘It is rather tedious,” Winter sighed. “But it is still your home. You have to go back sooner or later. If you keep coming home late every day…”
She trailed off with a soft sigh. “Mr. Timothy Campbell has always been biased. If he finds even the slightest excuse, he will lecture you endlessly.”
‘That’s precisely what makes him so tiresome,” Margaret said, taking another sip of her drink. “I’ve already accepted so many gifts from Prince Theodore, and his poison is terribly stubborn to cure. Otherwise…”
‘Otherwise what?” Winter asked.
Margaret looked straight at Winter, earnest. “I was thinking you could stay here to live from now on. Or return to your hometown if you wish. Things are growing more dangerous around me by the day. If you stay beside me…”
‘You must be out of your mind,” Winter said firmly. “We grew up side by side. Through wealth and hardship, I will stay by your side always. I could never abandon you when you need me most.”
‘I only worry for your safety,” Margaret said softly. “Stella grows more reckless by the day. She has already tried to harm you once. She failed then, and who knows when she will strike again? And Crown Prince Christopher also lurks in the shadows, watching for a chance to hurt you, too.”
‘I will never be a burden to you. If I let someone else attend to you, I wouldn’t feel at ease,” Winter insisted, her eyes growing misty. “I know you are only looking out for me, but I truly cannot bear to leave you. You have given me everything I have. Please do not send me away.”
