Chapter 20 Poison and Pills
The Crown Prince’s life hung in the balance–and with it, all their necks.
Before anyone realized it, needles had densely surrounded Christopher’s wound. Standing nearby. Jasper couldn’t shake the feeling that the Crown Prince’s body seemed less rigid than before.
Even the blackened wound appeared to have faded somewhat…
Just then, Stella rushed in frantically, clutching a small box. “Jasper, I’ve brought the antidote!”
Jasper immediately hurried over. “You know the antidote?”
Stella shook her head gravely. “It’s Silver Elixir. It counters dozens of toxins. We don’t know exactly what His Highness was hit with, but this can’t hurt. We have to try.”
Jasper nodded. “It’s priceless medicine–no side effects. Worth a shot.”
He took the pill and immediately pressed it into Christopher’s mouth.

At the same moment, Margaret, perspiring heavily, withdrew her needles.
If she’d noticed sooner–if she hadn’t been so angry–she could have saved him without leaving residual poison.
She’d been so furious earlier that she hadn’t noticed Christopher’s complexion worsening. If she’d detected the poison sooner, there wouldn’t be residual venom in his system now…
Fortunately, the remaining poison wasn’t lethal. One more acupuncture session and he’d fully recover.
Stella’s voice cut through, trembling with manufactured concern. “I know you love His Highness desperately. I know you mean well. But his life affects all of us. How could you gamble with everyone’s safety?”
Her eyes brimmed with tears, her face flushed–utterly pitiful to behold.
Seeing Margaret had stopped, Jasper shook his head with disappointment. “A young lady, tearing a man’s clothes off in public? Unthinkable!”
As he spoke, he hurried to rearrange Christopher’s robes. The moment he finished, Christopher slowly opened his eyes…
Jasper’s face lit up. “He’s awake! Stella’s medicine worked!”
That cheap pill did nothing.
Before she could speak, Stella launched herself at Christopher. “Your Highness! You’re awake! I was so scared–thank goodness I had the Silver Elixir—”
Christopher rubbed his temples, still feeling a throbbing pain in his wound. “I… was poisoned?”
Jasper nodded gravely. “Your entire arm went black. The blade was coated. The poison was subtle–didn’t

show until just now. We were terrified.
“No wonder my whole arm aches…”
Firushed:
Stella sniffled, lifting her head. “Please don’t blame Margaret, Your Highness. She was just so worried–she kept sticking needles in your arm…”
Jasper sighed, looking at Margaret like she was a lost cause. “I told you not to interfere. Thank heavens Stella was here. If His Highness hadn’t woken up–how would you have fixed that?”
Margaret laughed in sheer exasperation. Were these people out of their minds?
“If not for my needles, he’d be dead by now. Do you even hear yourselves?”
