Noelle said, “Exactly. Anyone with a little sense could see she was busy playing the lute–how could she have had a free hand to throw a hidden needle? If she really had such skill, why does everyone still say she has no talents at all?”

She folded her arms and leaned back in her chair. “Besides, even Jasper had no idea Stella had shaved her head, so how could Margaret have known? They’re sisters, after all. What good would it do Margaret to humiliate her own sister in front of everyone? She’s not foolish enough for that.”

Everyone with a clear mind could tell Noelle was speaking up for Margaret.

They were all stunned to see her take Margaret’s side, and Norma spoke up at once. “Noelle, this is adult business. You wouldn’t understand.”

“You’re the one who doesn’t understand, Mother,” Noelle retorted frankly. “Margaret was playing the lute. perfectly well just now, yet you immediately assumed she couldn’t play. You’re the one in the wrong here.”

Only Noelle dared speak to Norma in such a bold tone.

Young and innocent as she was, her words held undeniable truth.

Margaret had been occupied with the lute the entire time–there was no way she could have attacked Stella.

It was far more likely Stella had fallen on her own and made up an excuse.

Norma’s face turned dark. “Today is my birthday banquet. Let us drop these unpleasant matters. Let the music and performances continue.”

“Drop it just like that?” Theodore suddenly spoke.

He rose to his feet and walked over to Margaret’s side, then said gently to her, “If you feel uneasy, you may leave first.

In that moment, Margaret finally felt a sense of support. Her tension eased, and she shook her head.

Theodore then ordered sharply, “Bring the man here.”

At his command, two palace guards immediately dragged a young man forward and forced him to kneel on the ground.

All eyes turned curiously toward the newcomer.

“Isn’t this Ryan Holcomb, the youngest son of Chancellor Shawn Holcomb?”

“What’s he done to be arrested like this?”

As the crowd whispered, Shawn hurried forward anxiously. “Prince Theodore, what mischief has my son committed? He was already feeling unwell and preparing to take his leave. Why have you detained him?”

Norma added, “Theodore, this is my birthday feast. Any private matters may wait until tomorrow to settle.”

“The incident happened here today–it ought to be settled here,” Theodore replied coldly. “Why wait for tomorrow? When else could we gather so many witnesses to expose the truth openly?”

Norma’s lips twitched, ready to argue, but Spencer spoke first. “Theodore is right. Since the trouble has occurred, it must be resolved properly.”

With his verdict, Norma fell silent at once.

Theodore paid no mind to Shawn beside him. He looked down at the kneeling Ryan with a stern gaze. “That acupuncture needle that pricked Stella was yours, wasn’t it?”

Ryan shook his head repeatedly. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, Prince Theodore. My stomach hurts badly. I want to go home.”

Theodore said, “Refuse to speak? Search him.”

At Theodore’s order, Cyan stepped forward instantly. He patted Ryan down quickly and pulled out a small pouch of acupuncture needles from his clothes.

He handed the pouch respectfully to Theodore. Theodore poured the needles out and scattered them on the ground before Ryan.

“The evidence is plain for all to see. What have you to say for yourself?” Theodore asked.

The scattered needles lay across the ground, leaving every guest in utter shock.

It really had been Ryan who did it.

Shawn stepped forward at once and slapped him hard across the face. “Wretched boy! What on earth have you done?”

Ryan’s eyes darted nervously from person to person. No one noticed his gaze drifted several times toward a certain woman standing not far away,

The woman narrowed her eyes subtly and avoided his stare.

Ryan blurted out defensively, “I just couldn’t stand watching that plump Stella making a fool of herself on stage! She was beautiful once, and her dancing was worth watching–but now she’s swollen and ugly. Why bother dancing at all? She’s an eyesore! I only meant to make her stumble a little. I never knew she was wearing a wig. Besides, she’s the one who falsely accused her own sister–it has nothing to do with me!”

Shawn stepped forward and slapped him again, then bowed respectfully to Theodore. “Prince Theodore, my deepest apologies. I have failed to discipline my son properly. I shall take him home and punish him severely at once.”

Theodore asked, “You intend to apologize only to me?”

Shawn froze, then quickly turned to Margaret. “My apologies, Ms. Campbell. It is my fault for failing to raise my son well, nearly letting you be wrongfully accused by everyone present.”

As a dignified Chancellor, having to apologize to a young lady filled him with embarrassment.
