Chapter 237 Forgive You All the Same

Stella bit her lower lip. “Robin, I’m in so much pain right now. My reputation is completely ruined. Even if I marry Crown Prince Christopher, I’ll only ever be a Royal Consort. What am I supposed to do now?”
Robin fell into thought for a moment, then pulled out a chair and sat down beside her. “So you asked me here hoping I’d help you fix this mess?”
Stella nodded firmly. “Yes. Will you help me get rid of all these troubles? My good name is destroyed because Margaret set me up. I want nothing more than for her to suffer the same shame as me—but I’m completely powerless to do anything on my own.”
She sniffled softly. “If I had a choice, I’d never want to marry Crown Prince Christopher at all. All I want is to be your wife, Robin. But I’m just a helpless woman. How could I ever control my own fate?”
Robin fixed his gaze straight on her eyes, speaking slowly. “Do you truly want to marry me?”
Tears streamed down Stella’s face, looking utterly sorrowful and vulnerable. “I do, more than anything. Ever since you confessed your feelings to me before, you’ve been the only one in my heart. I couldn’t give you an answer back then because of our status differences. I only dared to think of you secretly late at night, when no one was around.”
She wiped the tears from her cheeks gently. “I know it’s sudden for me to say all this now, but these are my truest feelings. Please don’t feel pressured because of my words, Robin I just needed you to know how I feel -you don’t have to give me any reply at all. I know I’ll never get to marry you in this life, yet I still had to let you hear my heart.”
Robin’s voice turned gentle. “Silly Stella, truth be told–I’ve never been able to forget you either.”
He reached out, tilting her chin up with his fingers. “All these years, your face has always been the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. I wanted to marry you once when we were younger, though my words back then might have seemed impulsive. Now at last, you’ve come to see my real feelings.”
Stella asked quickly, panic edging into her voice, “Do you already have someone you love now, Robin?”
Robin replied plainly, “Not at all.”
Stella sniffled again, her voice thick with self–blame. “I know I’m being selfish. I’m supposed to marry another man soon, yet I’m still terrified you’ll fall for someone else. I know it’s wrong of me to feel this way, but I just can’t help it.”
Robin looked at her. “You could still marry me, if that’s what you truly want.
“If your words are honest, I can find a chance to speak with Christopher and ask for your hand. Who knows –he might see how we love each other and let you go freely.”
Stella shook her head frantically the second she heard this. “No, Robin. You know how obsessed he is with saving his pride. If he finds out my heart belongs only to you, he’ll lose all face–and he’ll never let us off easy.”
Robin let out a faint laugh, unbothered. “What harm could a Crown Prince who’s soon to be crippled possibly do to us?”

Stella froze in shock, eyes wide. “What did you just say?”

Robin spoke in a matter–of–fact tone. “Haven’t you heard already? He took a bad fall inside the palace and now walks with a limp. It’s not just once, either–he’s fallen multiple times lately, each time leaving him stumbling and unsteady. A grown man doesn’t keep falling for no reason. His legs are already failing him; that’s why he keeps collapsing to the ground. He’s well on his way to being fully crippled.”
His expression stayed completely calm and unchanging. “This isn’t even the first time he’s been crippled. I’d say he’s grown quite used to it by now.”
Stella stared at him. “Have you actually seen him walking around with that limp?”
Robin shot her a cold glance. “Everyone in court knows it; I don’t need to see it with my own two eyes. Or are you, his betrothed, the only one left in the dark about all this?”
A cold smirk tugged at Robin’s lips as he studied her. “I think you came running back to me all of a sudden only because you heard he’s going to end up crippled, isn’t that right?”
Her secret thoughts lay bare all at once; Stella shifted awkwardly in her seat, flustered and uneasy. “How can you say that, Robin? I came back to you simply because I truly can’t get you out of my mind.”
Robin smiled faintly, “If it’s genuine affection, all the better. Even if it isn’t, I’m willing to forgive you all the
