Rejected by the Crown Prince? | Married His Uncle
Chapter 317 Suicide

Jasper offered Margaret another apologetic look. “I know you’re hurting right now, Margaret. Father and I both promise you, we will get to the bottom of this. If the proof points to Stella hiring that assassin, she won’t get off easy.”
He paused, glancing at the lightening sky. But the evidènce just isn’t solid yet. It’s almost dawn. Why don’t you try to get some rest? Tomorrow, I’ll have your things moved to a different wing–somewhere more central, safer. To prevent anything like this from happening again.”
The dark–clad assassin had already been dragged away, Baxter powerless to intervene against the Duke’s orders.
Margaret’s expression remained impassive. She’d known from the start that one incident wouldn’t be enough to bring Stella down for good.
“Don’t bother. Since you’re all so convinced of her innocence, you should hurry and comfort her instead,” she replied coolly.
Jasper, at least, tried to be fair. “We don’t have proof she’s innocent, either. But you’re the one who was attacked tonight. You’re the one who needs comforting. You can trust that we’ll—”
A voice cut through his words from the doorway.
“Prince Christopher is here!”
All heads turned. Christopher was being wheeled into the room by an attendant, several guards flanking him. He surveyed the tense scene with visible surprise.
“Still awake at this hour?” he remarked.
Baxter’s brow furrowed. “It’s the dead of night, Your Highness. What brings you here?”
Remembering their last encounter, Christopher caught the edge in Baxter’s tone and stiffened slightly. “My business is not for servants to question,” he retorted.
Though he was stripped of his Crown Prince title, his royal status still commanded a wary respect.
Timothy stepped forward with more courtesy. “Your Highness, have you come for Stella? She’s-”
Christopher stated flatly, his gaze locking onto her, “I’ve come for Margaret.
“Not long ago, my legs began to ache terribly. The royal physicians said a complete paralysis would mean no feeling at all. This pain is a sign there’s still hope.” His voice took on a pleading note. “Margaret, I know you’re still angry. I came to apologize, truly. If you won’t forgive me, I’ll come every day until you agree to help…”
“Then you’ll have to visit the Ducal Palace to see Ms. Campbell from now on,” Baxter interjected sharply. moving protectively in front of Margaret.
Christopher frowned, his guards shifting restlessly behind him.

Then, he raised a hand to calm them. “The location doesn’t matter,” he said, then sighed deeply, his eyes on Margaret.
“I heard you’re to be Uncle Theodore’s Royal Consort. I warned you he wouldn’t make you his wife. Did you not believe me? Are you heartbroken now?”
Margaret ignored him completely.
He pressed on, his tone growing heavy. “The title of my Princess… it’s still yours if you regret this path-”
“Your Highness, mind your words!” Baxter cut in, unable to contain his disdain. “Ms. Campbell’s marriage to my lord was decreed by the King himself, as was the annulment of your own betrothal. If you wish to defy an imperial decree, do not drag our lord into it!”
Christopher’s patience snapped. “Roy! Silence him!”
Roy stepped forward, hand raised. But before he could act, a panicked shriek tore through the room.
“Terrible news! Something awful has happened!”
A young maid stumbled in, breathless and disheveled. “Ms. Stella Campbell–she’s run to the cliffs behind the estate! She says she’s going to jump!”
A stunned silence fell over everyone.
Christopher wheeled around. “What? Why would she do such a thing?”
The maid, clearly from under Stella’s wing, launched into a garbled, tearful account of the night’s events, painting a picture of universal persecution that had driven the fragile Stella to despair. “She’s endured so much scorn lately, and now, to be falsely accused… She must want to prove her innocence with her life! Please, Your Highness, you must see justice done før her!”
“You little liar!” Baxter exploded. “That assassin named her! No one ‘falsely accused‘ her without cause!”
“Enough arguing!” Jasper cried, his face pale with alarm. “We have to stop her!”
He was already rushing for the door.

Timothy had bolted the moment he heard the news, shouting orders to mobilize a search party as he ran.
