Rejected by the Crown Prince? I Married His Uncle
Chapter 318 Irony
Margaret alone remained unhurried.
So, Stella’s act is beginning.

“Margaret, your sister is threatening to jump off a cliff, and you can stay so calm? Aren’t you going to check on her?” Christopher asked.
Before Margaret could reply, Baxter cut in. “She hired an assassin to kill her own sister. Now that her scheme’s come to light, she’s putting on this weepy, desperate act. Since no one’s taking the bait, she’s resorted to threatening suicide. What a rotten trick! Ms. Campbell, leave her be! Let her jump if she’s so
keen.”
Christopher snorted. “Uncle Theodore’s men really are something else–cold to the bone. Like master, like
servant.”
“Cold?” Baxter shot back, anger plain on his face. “Do you have any idea how close that assassin came to taking her life today?”
For just a moment, something flickered in Christopher’s eyes. “Margaret, were you hurt?”
Ignoring him completely, Margaret turned and started toward the door.
Baxter looked surprised. “Ms. Campbell, you’re not actually heading up the mountain, are you?”
“What else? Let Stella throw herself off and then have all the blame dumped on me?” she replied, her voice icy, quickening her pace.
“She’s doing this to herself. Who would dare blame you?”
“Oh, plenty would.”
Glancing back, she saw Christopher and the others already following.
This performance sure has drawn a crowd.
It brought to mind the last time someone had threatened to jump from this cliff—the briginal Margaret.
Back then, Christopher had been the only one who’d bothered.
Now, Stella’s little drama had half the Prime Minister’s Estate scrambling to save her. The irony wasn’t lost
on her.
Returning to the cliff’s edge, Margaret felt nothing but calm.
The place was packed. Timothy’s servants held flickering torches, their flames dancing in the wind.
Christopher’s guards carried lanterns that cast a bright, steady glow over the rocky ledge.
The horizon was tinged with pink, the world still hazy with the approaching dawn.

And there stood Stella, backlit by the growing light, poised on the very brink.
She looked heartbreakingly fragile, her long hair–even if it was a wig–streaming in the breeze.
Dressed in stark white, she seemed to glow against the somber sky, a vision of shattered beauty that held everyone’s gaze.
“Don’t come any closer! One more step and Ill jump!”
Her heels were inches from the drop. A tiny shift backward would send her plummeting.
Timothy was sweating with panic. “What are you doing? No one’s blaming you! I believe you had nothing to do with that assassin. I’m not going to punish you. Please, come back. Don’t do anything rash…”
Jasper was equally frantic. “Stella, no one suspects you! No one’s afgry! We’ve all been defending you! We know that the assassin was just trying to sow discord. This isn’t your fault. Come back, please—be reasonable!”
Unable to walk on his injured leg, Christopher had been carried up by Roy.
Now he sank wearily onto a nearby rock. “Stella, I’ve heard what happened. I believe you’re innocent, too. Our wedding is in a few days. For my sake, please… don’t do this.”
Every face showed tension. Everyone was on edge.
In all the commotion, no one even noticed Margaret standing at the back.
Baxter sighed softly. “Ms. Campbell, having a family like this… you have my sympathy.”
A faint smile touched her lips. “When I go over there, make sure you pull her back. No matter what.”
“What? Why-”
“This is too easy a way out for her. Just do as I say,” she said.
“But-”
“Look at this spectacle she’s making. If she jumps today, every single person here will make my life a living hell. They might not kill me, but they’ll sure as hell make me wish I were dead. So Stella needs to find a different way to die.” Her words were so quiet only Baxter could hear them.
He frowned, then gave a firm nod. “Understood.”
Without another word, Margaret began moving casually toward the front.
She’d only taken a few steps when Timothy grabbed her arm. “What are you doing? Trying to push your sister over the edge?”
That set Stella off.
Her voice rose to a shrill pitch. “Stay back! Margaret, especially you! Take one more step, and I’ll jump right now!
