Chapter 46 I Was Poisoned
Finished
Stella grabbed her head in pain. She accidentally pulled out another clump of hair–and immediately burst into tears.
Nadia threw her arms around Stella’s feet. “It’s going to be okay, I’ll find a way. Please don’t cry. Don’t be scared.”
“How can I not be scared?” Stella sobbed. “In just a few days, I’ve already lost nearly half my hair. For now, I can hide it with ornaments. But what about next week? When I have no hair left–what am I supposed to cover it with?”
She was about to say more when a young maid’s voice came from outside the door. “Ms. Campbell, Mr. Jasper Campbell is here.”
Stella straightened up immediately. “Tell him
“Yes, Ms. Campbell.”
I’ve already gone to sleep.”
Stella took a deep breath. “You were right to send the others out,” she said to Nadia. “That was thoughtful.”
Nadia nodded respectfully. “Don’t worry. Not many people will find out about this. Once your hair grows back–whether it’s the doctors who saw you lose it, or those two maids outside–I’ll take care of all of
them.”
Her eyes narrowed. “No one but me will ever know you’re losing your hair. You can rest easy.”
Stella’s voice turned cold. “People are easy enough to handle. But how do I make my hair grow back?”
Nadia thought for a moment. “If it won’t grow back,” she said, “we could get you a wig.”
“A wig?” Stella was confused.
Nadia nodded. “Yes, Ms. Campbell. I’ve looked into it. Lots of people have thin hair. They go to villages and buy long hair from the poor villagers. Then they have it made into wigs. Not many people use them here as long as you can find someone skilled in this craft and have them custom–make one just for you, you won’t have to worry about anyone finding out–even if you were to go completely bald.
“We can deal with the immediate problem first. Then we keep looking for a real cure. What do you think?”
For the first time, a little light came back into Stella’s eyes. “You’re sure something like that really exists?”
“I’m positive. It’s not common here, but it is in other places. There are plenty of noblewomen with thin hair. The demand for wigs is actually quite high.”
Stella’s eyes narrowed. “Fine. Handle it. And be careful.”
Nadia smiled, “Don’t worry, Ms. Campbell. Even if someone finds out. I’d shave my own head before I let anyone know you’ve lost your hair.”
Stella nodded, finally satisfied. “Having you is my good fortune.”

Chapter 46 I Was Poisoned
Just then, another maid’s voice came from outside. “Ms. Campbell, someone from Crown Prince Christopher is here for you.”
Fuished
Stella’s face went stiff. She grabbed a cloth and quickly tied it over her head. “Crown Prince Christopher is here? Why would he come this late?”
Nadia also panicked. “Tell him Ms. Campbell has already gone to sleep,”
Ms. Campbell has lost even more hair tonight. There is no way I can let Crown Prince Christopher see her like this.
But the young maid simply said, “Crown Prince Christopher isn’t here. It’s his attendant. He said the Crown Prince’s old poison has come back. He wants to borrow a Silver Elixir.”
Stella let out a breath of relief. She had Nadia take the medicine out, then slumped back into her chair, exhausted.
Nadia came back inside, sweating. She carefully closed the door behind her.
“See?” she said. “I told you Crown Prince Christopher is crazy about you. If it weren’t urgent, he would have stayed by your side tonight. He’s not feeling well–that’s why he didn’t come.”
She paused. “It’s probably good he didn’t. But he’ll come see you tomorrow or the day after. And when he does…”
“Then you should go out tonight,” Stella said coldly, “and find that thing you were talking about.”
Nadia nodded. “I will. After you rest, I’ll go out tonight.”
“No.” Stella’s eyes suddenly went wide. “This isn’t an illness. I was poisoned. I know it. When you talk to doctors, don’t say I’m sick. Say I was poisoned. I was definitely poisoned.”
She stared at Nadia, her gaze burning. “Remember at the Fragrant Celestial Pavilion? Margaret said something strange to me. She said she was going to give me a big gift. What if that gift was this poison? She’s the one who did this to me.”
Nadia looked shocked. “Does she even have that kind of skill?”
“She saved Prince Theodore, didn’t she?” Stella’s voice was sharp. “If she can do that, of course, she can get her hands on a poison this cruel. All my poison did was make her fat. But hers–hers is making me go bald. Damn her. Margaret deserves to die.”
