Chapter 47 Just to Get My Attention
Nadia clenched her fists. “If she really did poison you, then yes–she deserves to die.”
Stella asked, “What has she been doing these past two days?”
** Finished
Nadia lowered her voice. “I haven’t had a chance to tell you yet. The two people we planted over there- she kicked them out, plain as day. Now I have no idea what she does every day.”
“Useless.” Stella’s fists tightened. “All of you are useless. Not one of you can make things easy for me.”
Nadia bit her lip. “Don’t be angry. The moment I found out, I hired some thugs. Those two maids–dead or alive, who knows? So don’t worry about them running their mouths.”
Stella finally looked satisfied. “At least you get things done.”
Her eyes turned vicious. “Margaret is behind all of this. She poisoned me. Made me ugly. I will make her pay.”
I will settle this score. Every last bit of it.
And I will make sure Margaret never has a single good day.

Back at the palace, it was already the middle of the night.
Christopher tossed and turned. He couldn’t sleep.
He thought the medicine would stop the pain in his wound. But even as the sky began to lighten, the ache kept coming–wave after wave.
Finally, he couldn’t take it anymore. He untied the bandage and looked. The cloth around the wound was stained with blood. The cut was seeping again.
Isn’t the Silver Elixir supposed to cure the poison?
Why hasn’t it worked after all this time?
And why does the wound hurt even more?
He suddenly remembered that day.
Margaret had insisted–very seriously–that acupuncture had cured him.
Could it be…
He shook his head.
No way. If Margaret knew acupuncture, she would have treated me every single day back when I was crippled.
Thinking about that time made his knees throb–a dull, numbing pain. It drove him crazy,

Chapter 47 Just to Get My Attention
I must be losing my mind. Why does my whole body feel wrong?
Maybe the medicine is just slow. Maybe sleep will fix it.
But no matter how much he tossed and turned, the pain in his arm and knees wouldn’t stop. He couldn’t
rest.
So he got up and called for the royal doctor to get something for the pain.
While waiting for the medicine, he asked Roy, “Did you find out anything about Margaret? What was she doing tonight?”
Roy stood at the door of the bedchamber. “Not much to report, Your Highness. I heard Ms. Campbell went to bed early.”
Christopher’s face darkened. “How could she possibly sleep? I announced right in front of her that I was going to marry Stella as Crown Princess. She acted like nothing was wrong–but inside, she must be furious.”
Roy shook his head. “I wouldn’t know, Your Highness. I just heard she’s been keeping early hours. She runs around her courtyard before bed and after waking up. Seems like she’s trying to lose weight.”
“Lose weight?” Christ coffed. “With her size? That’ll take at least a year.”
Roy spoke carefully. “We see her every day, so we don’t notice. But people close to Queen Norma say they haven’t seen Ms. Campbell in a while. When they saw her this time, they thought she looked thinner. Maybe she really has lost some weight.”
Christopher narrowed his eyes. “Thinner? They must be seeing things. I saw her today–she was still just as
fat.
