Chapter 55 Another Way Out

It hit her then–whoever was up there probably wanted to strike the moment they fell into the cave.

The only reason they were still alive was that Theodore’s shadow guards had stepped in just in time.

There was no time to overthink. Margaret stood up quickly and scanned the cave.

She said, “They’re openly trying to kill you now–which means they came prepared. If we climb back up there, we’re walking right into our own deaths. We need to see if there’s another way out of here.”

Theodore gritted his teeth and got to his feet. “No need. I don’t run. They do.”

He was about to jump back up–but Margaret grabbed his hand.

She frowned. “You can’t go up there. I know you’re strong, but you’re hurt. Your body still has poison in it -you can’t use too much inner energy. And now you’ve lost all that blood. That’s basically the same as having your powers sealed. If you go up there in this state, you’re just asking to die.”

Theodore pushed her hand away. “They’re the ones who’ll die.”

The moment the words left his mouth–something blocked the light from above. A soft rustling sound came down. Then a cloud of pollen drifted into the cave.

Margaret looked up when she heard the noise. Someone was deliberately sprinkling powder from above- that’s why the light had dimmed.

Before she could react, Theodore had already pulled her back into a corner. “Sweet bay.”

Margaret’s heart dropped. She immediately reached up and covered Theodore’s mouth and nose. “Don’t breathe it in.”

Even as she spoke, the pollen made her cough. She couldn’t stop.

There was just too much of it. Even if they didn’t want to inhale it, there was no escaping it.

By now, both of their bodies were covered in the powder. Unless Theodore could hold his breath completely.

“Go.” Theodore shoved her aside–hard.

He covered his own mouth and nose, his voice seething. “I’m going to kill them.”

His eyes were bloodshot. He tried to climb up, but Margaret grabbed him again. “Don’t be stupid–I see an exit.”

Theodore gave her a long, meaningful look. “You want me to run?”

Margaret shook her head. “This isn’t running. The situation is against us right now. We fall back, recover, and then come back for revenge.”

Theodore’s eyes were still blazing red. “This chance won’t come again.”

Chapter 55 Another way out

Margaret rolled her eyes and grabbed his hand. “That’s exactly what they’re thinking, too.”

Then, without waiting to see his reaction, she pulled him into a small opening at the side of the cave.

The cave went deeper. In the distance, she could see a faint glow of light.

So there’s another way out.

At the same time, back at the entrance above, two men in black had been staring down into the hole for a while.

“The master was right to follow them. We finally got our chance,” one of them said smugly.

The other nodded. “The master had to do it personally–otherwise, they would’ve noticed us. By now, Theodore’s right–hand men have been lured away. And Theodore himself must be deep in the poison’s grip. He won’t last long.”

“And if he does last? He’s got that woman with him,” the first one said with a sneer.

The other laughed. “That fat woman? Please. Theodore would rather die than touch her. Once he breaks down, we’ll just finish him off clean and fast.”

“Don’t be so sure. Fat or not, she’s still a woman. And any woman can buy him some time. No matter how proud Theodore is, he’s not going to throw his life away.”

“Fair point. But honestly–if he actually did go for that fat pig, that’d be even better. Sleeping with a woman might ease his pain for a moment, but the poison will only sink deeper. And when he’s at his weakest, we strike. One blow. Done.”

“I’d love to see the great Prince Theodore rutting in a cave with a fat pig.”

“Enough chatting. Time to go down and take a look.”

The two men jumped into the hole one after another.

The first one landed badly–slipped and slammed face–first into the ground.

The second didn’t fare much better. The cave floor was covered in sharp little stones. Even though he tried to be careful, he still twisted his ankle and dropped to his knees.
