Margaret spoke in a soft, gentle tone to explain. “I’ve secretly trained in combat arts every moment you’re not by my side. I never told anyone—not even you–because I wanted to keep this hidden from the rest of the world.”
Winter stared at her in utter shock. “But I stay right beside you nearly all the time…”
A harsh coughing fit cut her words short, her body shaking with each cough.
Margaret patted her back gently to soothe her. “Save your breath for now. You’re already chilled and feverish after hanging exposed for a full day and night. We’ll talk once we get back to the estate.”
“I know.” Winter gave a weak nod, then coughed lightly once more. “We can never expose Ms. Stella Campbell for what she truly is. No one inside the Prime Minister’s Estate would ever believe our word. I was taken silently in my sleep, and Ms. Stella Campbell has covered her tracks perfectly. She will never admit her crimes–and without proof, we have no way to fight back.”
Her eyes grew glossy with rising tears. “I once thought Ms. Stella Campbell was merely petty and cunning. like most noble young ladies. I never imagined she would go so far as to take your life. You’re lucky you learned to defend yourself in secret. We would not have survived this day otherwise.”
Margaret’s tone held quiet helplessness. “Quiet now. Let us head home first.”
Winter asked, “You let Crown Prince Christopher go to her without a fight. Why does she still hunt you down and refuse to leave you in peace?”
Margaret sighed sharply, “You talk far too much.”
Winter pressed her lips tight and fell silent at once.

Back inside the Prime Minister’s Estate, within Rosethorne Court, Stella sat with a dark, sullen expression before her mirror, her gaze fixed firmly on her own reflection. “It has been long enough. That poor fool Margaret must have been thrown off the cliff by now.”
Behind her, Nadia brushed and styled Stella’s hair with careful, delicate movements.
Nadia said in a sneering tone, “That coward has always been weak at heart. She’s grown bolder lately, bur her true timid nature will never change. She panics at the first sign of trouble. The way she rushed out earlier proved she lost all sense of control.”
Stella let out a cold laugh. “I thought she looked fierce and confrontational before she left. Turns out she’s nothing more than a hollow paper tiger.”
Nadia smiled in flattering delight, “She has no way to uncover our scheme. We stayed safe and sound inside the manor all along. She could never pin this crime on us. Mr. Campbell will return soon—and he’ll see exactly how that rude girl has mistreated you these past few days.”
Mid–sentence, Nadia accidentally rugged loose a strand of hair. She ducked her head in immediate fear.

Stella felt no pain at all, too busy admiring her own beauty in the mirror. “This fine wig lives up to its reputation. It looks more natural than real hair–soft and lovely.”
Nadia rushed to flatter her. “Your face is delicate. Only you could wear such a wig and look this stunning”
“You always know just what to say.” Stella looked thoroughly pleased, and a vicious glint flashed across her eyes. “I’m lucky to have you by my side. Without you, this plan would have fallen apart.”
Nadia said. “It’s all that woman’s fault. She poisoned you and left you bald, and she deserves the worst punishment possible. We only sent her to her death on the cliff; that is far too kind for what she’s done.”
Stella clenched her fists tight with rage. “It is too merciful. She deserves to be torn apart and broken completely.”
Nadia nodded in agreement. “A brutal end is all she’s earned. She’s always clung to sadness and thoughts of death. No one will question her passing if she falls from that cliff.”
Stella smiled. “You speak the truth. Her fate will be the same either way.”
She lifted a hand to touch her wig, her expression turning cold. “Fake hair will never compare to the real thing. I am fully bald. You must keep searching for a cure to this poison–I need my hair to grow back.”
Nadia bowed her head in humble
**Obedience. “I will do everything in my power.”
She paused for a moment before adding, “A messenger from the Crown Prince’s Estate just arrived. Crown Prince Christopher will visit shortly. You must dress beautifully for his arrival.”
Stella scoffed softly, “Do I truly need fine clothes to shine?”
Nadia laughed in quick flattery. “Of course not. Your beauty shines brighter than any noble lady’s, even with no extra adornments.”
The two spoke and laughed together, filling the courtyard with false warmth and ease.
