Chapter 95 The Choice Is Yours

Fourched

The ropes binding Winter finally came undone. She tore the gag from her mouth the second she was free, her voice rough and urgent. Ms. Campbell, leave me behind and run.”

Her skin burned with a high fever. She had hung from the tree for countless hours, her face flushed bright redclear proof that a severe fever had taken hold.

Margaret pulled a fever reducer from her storage space and pressed it gently past Winter’s lips. She then turned a sharp, wary gaze toward the group of men blocking their path.

Margaret questioned sharply, Who sent you? Why kidnap Winter? Why lure me to this cliff? When were you taken?

The rush of sharp questions snapped Winter back to her senses at once.

Winter said in a frantic, jumbled rush, Didn’t Ms. Stella Campbell come looking for you? She planned to draw you here and kill you. She meant to throw your body off the cliffand make it look like you’d tried to take your own life a second time.

She stepped forward and stood firmly in front of Margaret, her shoulders tensed in protection. This is all my fault for getting you dragged into this. You must flee and save yourself. I am only a servant, not worth risking your life to rescue.

Margaret frowned. Were you kidnapped yesterday?

Winter’s eyes welled up with tears, and she stayed silent, unable to deny the truth.

Margaret clenched her fists hard.

Damn it. I should have noticed something was wrong yesterday.

I was far too worn out and fell straight to sleep, never checking if Winter was safe in her quarters.

She spent an entire day and night strung up on this freezing cliff in the bitter coldno wonder she’s burning with fever.

Even in her own agony, she still tried to shield me first. She’s so foolish, and so pitiful.

One of the men sneered, Quit wasting time. Move in.

Another man grunted harshly, All charge at once. We only need to toss that heavy woman over the edge, and our job is done.

The gang of men wasted no more words and swarmed toward Margaret in a tight crowd.

Winter cried out in terror, Ms. Campbell, run!

Margaret replied in a calm, steady tone, I don’t need to run.”

As she spoke, a handful of thin needles appeared in her grasp. The dozen men were only steps away when she flicked her wrist hard. The needles sliced through the air, and the front attackers crumpled to the

The remaining men froze in pure shock, too stunned to react. More needles flew through the air moments later. In the blink of an eye, every last man lay motionless on the rocky ground.

Winter stared ahead, frozen in utter disbelief.

Margaret simply brushed dust off her hands with casual case. I never fled when hundreds of foes surrounded me. A mere dozen thugs are nothing to fear.

If I’d known Stella had only such weak tricks up her sleeve, I never would have bothered sending for Prince Theodore’s help.

Discontent lingered in Margaret’s chest as she looked over the fallen men, yet she stepped forward at once to steady the weak, feverish Winter.

She said softly. I’ll take you down the mountain first.

Winter stared blankly at the scene around her, still struggling to process what she’d just seen.

The men on the ground were equally stunned and crippled.

Some foamed at the mouth, others clutched their stomachs and screamed in crippling pain. Every face twisted in agony, and none could push themselves back to their feet.

Pained wails echoed across the cliffside.

Sharp, throbbing torment coursed through their bodies, and it felt as though their bones would shatter apart at any moment.

Margaret watched their suffering with quiet indifference. I know exactly who hired you, and I know your cruel plan. Rest easyI have no intention of killing you. I only slipped a mild poison into your bodies.

This poison will flare up for ten hours each day, leaving you trapped in endless agony, yet it will never end your lives. My antidote is the only thing that can ease the pain. You may choose to refuse my help, but one month from now, your bodies will waste away and melt into blood. Feel free to test my word if you doubt me.”

She glanced over them with lazy, unconcerned eyes. The antidote is simple to earn. Expose the one who ordered this attack to everyone, or turn on your employer and punish her for her crimes. Do whatever pleases me, and I will hand over the antidote you need. The choice is yours.”

With that, Margaret helped Winter to her feet and walked away from the cliff without a single backward glance.

The walk down the mountain passed in heavy silence.

Winter’s face was deathly pale, and she hesitated again and again, holding back words she longed to speak.

Margaret’s expression turned grim. Stella dared to kidnap you right inside the estate’s walls. She has grown reckless and completely unrestrained. Once we return, we will expose her true nature for everyone
