CHAPTER 152 PART 2

Marcus was silent for a moment. She wasn’t wrong. Elize had been a pawn in his game, and now she was paying the price.

“I’ll handle it,” he said finally.

“Really?” Ives looked surprised. “I thought you didn’t care about her.”

“I don’t,” Marcus said coldly. “But I don’t abandon my weapons on the battlefield either. If Atlas wants revenge, he can try taking it on me. Not on some girl who got caught in the crossfire.”

Ives studied him for a long moment, then nodded. “That’s… actually honorable. In a terrifying sort of way.”

“Leave,” Marcus ordered. “And Ives-stay away from Atlas. If he even suspects you warned me, you’ll be in danger again.”

“I can handle myself now,” Ives said, surprising confidence in her voice. “I learned something from watching you, Marcus Steel. Power doesn’t come from family names or money. It comes from refusing to be afraid.”

She turned and walked out, her posture straighter than when she’d entered.

Miguel waited until she was gone before speaking. “Boss, this feels like a trap.”

“It probably is,” Marcus agreed. “Atlas isn’t stupid. He knows I might show up.”

“Then why-”

“Because Ives was right. This is my fault.” Marcus’s jaw tightened. “I used Elize without caring about the consequences for her. That makes me responsible.”

“The Dragon King taking responsibility for collateral damage?” Miguel’s smile was slight. “That’s almost noble.”

“Don’t mistake practicality for nobility,” Marcus corrected. “If I let Atlas destroy everyone who associates with me, eventually no one will dare stand near me. I need allies, not corpses.”

“Fair point.” Miguel checked his watch. “Eight PM at Riverside Estate. That gives us five hours to prepare.”

“We’re not preparing,” Marcus said. “I’m going alone.”

“Boss-”

“Alone, Miguel. If Atlas is setting a trap, walking in with an army will just escalate things. But one man? That sends a different message.”

Miguel looked like he wanted to argue, then sighed. “Your funeral.”

Twenty miles away, in the Lancaster family’s private estate, Atlas Lancaster sat in his study, his left arm in a sling, his face still pale from the previous night’s terror.

The Red Widow had come within five meters of his bedroom. Five meters. If she’d had thirty more seconds, he’d be dead.

The security footage played on repeat on his tablet. He watched the woman in red tear through his guards like they were paper. Watched her move with inhuman speed and precision. Watched her nearly reach him.

His hand trembled with rage as he paused the video.

“Sir?” His assistant, Raymond, stood nervously by the door. “The preparations for tonight are complete.”

“Good.” Atlas’s voice was hoarse from screaming earlier. “The Yarrow girl will regret the day she met Marcus Steel.”

“Are you sure about this, sir? If Steel shows up-”

“I’m counting on it,” Atlas interrupted. “This isn’t just about Elize. She’s bait. The real target is Steel himself.” He smiled, the expression twisted with malice. “He thinks he’s untouchable. Thinks he can humiliate me, destroy my reputation, and walk away. Tonight, he learns different.”

“What if the Red Widow comes again?”

Atlas’s smile vanished. His hand moved to the gun now permanently holstered at his side. “Let her try. This time, I’ll be ready. And this time, she won’t get five meters. She won’t get five feet.”

Raymond nodded and left.

Atlas returned to the security footage, rewinding to the moment the Red Widow appeared on camera. He froze the frame, zooming in on her face.

“Marcus Steel,” he whispered. “You sent her. I know you did. And tonight, I’m going to make you pay for every second of fear you caused me.”
