Saintess's Worthless Husband Turned Dragon Commander novel Chapter 23

CHAPTER 23 PART 1

Quinn Hartford’s world tilted on its axis.

Her husband-the man she’d abandoned in a collapsing building, the unemployed “trash” she’d forced into a contractual arrangement, the nobody she’d treated with cold indifference for three years-was apparently feared by the deadliest men in Grayson City.

How? The question screamed through her mind. How did I not know? How did I not see?

Her Saintess intuition suddenly blazed with belated recognition, as if scales had fallen from her divine senses. There was something about Marcus-something her holy powers couldn’t detect because it operated on a completely different plane of existence. Something ancient and primal that predated the sacred bloodlines.

Something that had been there all along, hidden beneath three years of deliberate submission.

He let me think he was worthless, Quinn realized with dawning horror. For three years, he let us all

believe…

Dom Martinez turned to Quinn, his posture shifting to respectful formality. “Lady Hartford, Sacred Saintess, please allow me to escort you and Brother Steel home safely. The situation here has become… complicated.”

The title-Sacred Saintess-carried genuine reverence from a man who’d probably killed more people than Quinn wanted to imagine. Recognition of her divine bloodline from someone who operated entirely outside the normal social structures that acknowledged Saintess authority.

But before Quinn could respond, Jaxon Brand’s voice cut through the moment.

“No.”

The single word carried desperate defiance. Jaxon’s face was flushed, his hands clenched into fists, his entire body vibrating with the need to salvage something from this catastrophic situation.

“Nobody leaves,” Jaxon continued, his voice rising. “Not until this is settled. Not until Marcus Steel understands what happens when you disrespect the Brand family!”

“Mr. Brand-” Dom started, his tone carrying warning.

“I don’t care!” Jaxon’s voice cracked with rage and humiliation. “You think I can just let him walk away? After what happened tonight? In front of all these people? My reputation-the Brand family’s reputation-”

“Is worth less than your life,” Dom interrupted coldly. “Which is what you’re risking right now.”

“I don’t care about threats!” Jaxon gestured wildly at his small army of rich heirs. “I have my own men! I have my own power! And Aaron Jackson or not, Marcus Steel is leaving his legs behind tonight! That’s non-negotiable!”

His friends-emboldened by their leader’s refusal to back down, drunk on alcohol and entitlement and

the desperate need to believe they were still in control-stepped forward with weapons raised.

Dom Martinez sighed, a sound of genuine regret, and gestured to Jace and his enforcers. “Defensive positions. Protect Brother Steel and Lady Hartford at all costs.”

The six enforcers moved with professional precision, forming a protective barrier around Marcus and Quinn. Their movements were economical, practiced, radiating the kind of lethality that came from years of violence.

Jaxon’s small army spread out, trying to flank, trying to find angles. The atmosphere in the Imperial Hall shifted from tense to absolutely lethal.

Quinn’s Saintess aura exploded outward instinctively, golden light flooding the space, creating a

shimmering barrier around herself and Marcus. Divine energy crackled in the air, making the chandeliers

flicker.

“Marcus,” she whispered urgently, her hand finding his arm, “we need to leave. Now. Before this

becomes a massacre.”

But Marcus stood calmly, dragon eyes glowing faintly, watching the unfolding confrontation with almost

detached interest. “It’s fine.”

“It’s not fine!” Quinn’s voice carried an edge of hysteria. “People are going to die! Your friend Dom Martinez is willing to kill for you, but Jaxon has numbers and-”

“It’s fine,” Marcus repeated, his voice carrying absolute certainty that made no logical sense.

CHAPTER 23 PART 2

The two groups faced each other across blood-stained marble-Dom Martinez’s professional killers versus Jaxon Brand’s entitled army. Violence hung in the air like a physical presence, seconds away from erupting.

“Last chance,” Dom said to Jaxon. “Walk away. Forget this happened. Live to see tomorrow.”

“Break his legs,” Jaxon commanded, his voice shaking but defiant. “I want Marcus Steel crippled. I want

him-”

The doors exploded inward for the fourth time that night.

But this entrance was different from all the others. No violence. No dramatic kicking. The doors simply opened, as if pushed by an invisible force, swinging wide with theatrical timing.

A man walked in.

He wore white-an immaculate white suit that seemed to glow in the Imperial Hall’s golden light, perfectly tailored, spotless despite the chaos and blood that surrounded him. His hair was dark, styled with casual elegance. His features were aristocratic, handsome in a way that spoke of perfect genetics rather than cosmetic enhancement.

But it was his presence that dominated the room. Not through size or obvious threat, but through sheer, undeniable authority. The kind of power that didn’t need to be announced because everyone who mattered already knew it.

Aaron Jackson.

The most feared and untouchable man in Grayson City.

Dom Martinez immediately bowed, his head lowering with genuine deference. “Mr. Jackson.”

His enforcers followed suit, bowing in perfect synchronization.

Even Jaxon Brand-for all his arrogance and desperation to save face-felt his knees weaken when Aaron Jackson’s eyes swept across the room and landed on him with casual assessment.

Aaron walked forward, his expensive shoes clicking against marble, hands in his pockets, utterly relaxed despite the violence hanging in the air. He looked around the destroyed Imperial Hall with mild interest, as if inspecting a mildly interesting art installation.
