CHAPTER 25 PART 1
Silence gripped the Imperial Hall like a physical force-heavy, oppressive, suffocating. Every person in the room processed Aaron Jackson’s declaration with varying degrees of shock and terror.
Jaxon Brand’s face cycled through emotions too quickly to track-confusion, disbelief, rage, and underneath it all, the first real tendrils of genuine fear. The “useless son-in-law” everyone mocked was someone Aaron Jackson personally protected. And more shockingly, Aaron Jackson himself had shown deference to Quinn Hartford, the Saintess.
“This is impossible,” Jaxon said, his voice shaking. “Marcus Steel is nobody! Everyone knows it! He’s unemployed trash who married above his station! How could he possibly be connected to you?”
Aaron’s expression remained pleasant, but his eyes held glacial coldness. “Your understanding of ‘ nobody’ needs recalibration, Jaxon Brand.”
“And a Saintess?” Jaxon continued, desperation bleeding into his voice. “Why would you show respect to a Saintess? You’ve never bowed to anyone! Not to politicians, not to business moguls, not even to-”
“I show respect,” Aaron interrupted calmly, “where respect is earned. The Sacred Saintess bloodline deserves acknowledgment.” His eyes flicked to Marcus. “As does my friend.”
He turned to Marcus, his formal demeanor relaxing into something more genuine. “Apologies for being late. Traffic was terrible. Should have left earlier.”
Marcus smiled-and for the first time that night, it wasn’t his terrifying smile but something warmer. “If you hadn’t arrived, Jaxon’s group would already be dead.”
The casual statement hit like a physical blow. Not a threat. Not a boast. Just a simple fact delivered with the confidence of someone who knew exactly how much violence he was capable of.
“Dead?” one of Jaxon’s friends whispered. “He thinks he could kill all of us?”
“Not thinks,” another corrected weakly. “Says it like… like it’s already happened.”
The Hartford Group employees watched this exchange with expressions of complete disbelief. Marcus Steel-the man they’d mocked for three years, whose unemployment they’d used as a punchline, whose very existence they’d treated as a joke-was having a relaxed conversation with Grayson City’s deadliest kingpin like they were old friends catching up over coffee.
“How long have you known each other?” Robert Chen whispered to Jessica.
“I don’t know,” she replied, her voice strangled. “But the way they’re talking… it’s not new. This isn’t some recent connection. They’re comfortable with each other.”
Quinn Hartford stood frozen beside Marcus, her Saintess senses overwhelmed by the conflicting energies in the room. Aaron Jackson radiated power that felt wrong somehow-not evil, but existing outside the normal frameworks her divine training recognized. And Marcus… Marcus felt like a void where her senses touched him, as if he existed on a completely different plane.

“Marcus, Quinn whispered urgently, “what’s happening? How do you know Aaron Jackson? What-”
Marcus turned to her, his dragon eyes softening slightly when they met hers. He spoke quietly, for her ears primarily, but in the deathly silence his words carried.
“In Grayson City, I am the sky.”
The statement was simple. Absolute. Undeniable.
I am the sky. Not under it. Not protected by it. The sky itself.
Quinn’s Saintess aura flickered wildly as the implications crashed through her consciousness. Three years. Three years of treating him like dirt, like an embarrassment, like someone beneath her notice.
And he’d been the sky all along.
“ENOUGH!”

CHAPTER 25 PART 2
Jaxon Brand’s roar shattered the moment. His face was purple with rage and humiliation, his entire body trembling. Watching Marcus and Aaron ignore his existence, talking casually as if he wasn’t even there, pushed him over an edge he couldn’t come back from.
“You think you can just ignore me?” Jaxon’s voice cracked. “I’m Jaxon Brand! My father is Damien Brand! The Brand family owns half this city!”
“Your father,” Aaron said without looking at him, “is a reasonable man. You should learn from his example.”
“Reasonable?” Jaxon laughed-a sound on the edge of hysteria. “You want reasonable? Fine! Here’s reasonable!” He pointed at Marcus, his hand shaking. “Marcus Steel crawls on his knees from this room to the hotel entrance. Does that. Right now. In front of everyone. Or I have him crippled where he stands!”
“You’re incapable,” Aaron said simply, examining his fingernails with casual disinterest.
“Incapable?” The word came out strangled. “INCAPABLE?”
Jaxon pulled out his phone with shaking hands, his face twisted with fury. “You think I’m alone? You think the Brand family stands alone?” He started dialing, his voice rising to a shout. “Tonight, I’m going to curb Aaron Jackson’s arrogance! Tonight, everyone learns what happens when you disrespect the Brand family!”
His friends pulled out their phones in a cascade of solidarity-Tyler, Connor (who’d recovered consciousness), Vincent’s cousin Marcus Chen, a dozen others representing Grayson City’s wealthy families.
“I’m calling my father!” one shouted.
“Morrison family is coming!”
“Walsh family reinforcements!”
“The Coopers will be here in twenty minutes!”
“Every major family in the city! Everyone who’s tired of Aaron Jackson acting like he’s untouchable!”
The calls went out in a frenzy. Jaxon’s face regained some color as his small army made their connections, summoning reinforcements from across Grayson City. Parents. Uncles. Family enforcers. Allied business leaders. Everyone who could be mobilized on short notice.
“You see?” Jaxon’s confident sneer returned. “In thirty minutes, this hotel will be surrounded. Every major family. Every connection. Everyone who matters in this city coming to put you in your place!”
His friends cheered, emboldened by the incoming support.
“Aaron Jackson’s reign ends tonight!”
