Saintess's Worthless Husband Turned Dragon Commander novel Chapter 54

CHAPTER 54 PART 1

Karen Ridge’s face cycled through emotions so rapidly it was almost comical-shock, disbelief, rage, then settling into a mottled purple that suggested an imminent stroke.

“You RESIGNED?” Her voice hit a pitch that made windows rattle. “Do you have ANY idea what you’ve done? What you’ve thrown away?”

“I made a decision,” Quinn said calmly, though her Saintess aura flickered with residual anger from the necklace confrontation. “One I should have made weeks ago.”

“A decision?” Karen’s laugh was shrill and bitter. “You threw away a project manager position! A position that would have brought this family MONEY! Respect! I was finally going to get a decent car instead of that embarrassing Passat your father insists on driving! And you just-just QUIT?”

“The position wasn’t worth the constant disrespect,” Quinn replied. “Oliver’s schemes, Grandfather’s manipulations, the entire company treating me like—”

“Like WHAT?” Karen interrupted. “Like a Sacred Saintess who got promoted above her experience level? Because that’s exactly what you are! You should have been GRATEFUL for the opportunity instead of throwing it away because your feelings got hurt!”

“It was my decision,” a new voice cut in.

Everyone turned to Marcus, who’d been quietly observing from the doorway.

“I encouraged Quinn to resign,” Marcus continued calmly. “And she won’t be returning to Hartford Group unless her grandfather personally begs her to come back.”

The silence that followed was deafening.

Then Karen exploded. “YOU! This is YOUR fault! You worthless, unemployed PARASITE! You’ve been poisoning my daughter’s mind! Turning her against her own family! Sabotaging our future!”

“Your future,” Marcus corrected quietly, “was built on Quinn’s suffering. On her enduring constant mockery and undermining from people who should have supported her. That’s not a future worth preserving.”

“What do YOU know about futures?” Karen’s voice dripped with contempt. “You’ve been unemployed for THREE YEARS! You contribute NOTHING to this household! You’re a burden! A mistake! A worthless man who somehow convinced a Sacred Saintess to marry him!”

“Mother, ENOUGH!” Quinn’s voice carried divine authority.

But Karen was beyond stopping. “How can a Sacred Saintess be led by such a useless man? What would your ancestors think? What would the other Saintess families say if they knew you’d thrown away your career because this… this NOTHING… told you to?”

Marcus’s expression remained calm, unbothered by Karen’s tirade. “There’s a reason for everything I do. Quinn stayed at Hartford Group, she’d continue being bullied, undermined, used as a pawn in Oliver’s schemes against her grandfather. By leaving now, she maintains her dignity and forces the family to recognize her value.”

“Her VALUE?” Karen’s laugh was ugly. “Without that position, she has no value to them! They’ll just replace her with someone more… compliant!”

“They’ll try,” Marcus agreed. “And they’ll fail. Because Titan Group- the company behind the partnership-will make certain demands. Demands that can only be met by bringing Quinn back. And when Zachary Hartford realizes that, he’ll come begging.”

Karen stared at him like he’d grown a second head. “You think… you think YOU can influence Titan Group? You? A nobody? A worthless son-in-law who can’t even hold down a job?”

“I don’t think,” Marcus said simply. “I know.”

“You’re DELUSIONAL!” Karen shrieked. “Titan Group is run by Owen Cooper! One of the most powerful businessmen in Grayson City! Do you seriously believe he takes orders from YOU?”

“I believe,” Marcus said, his dragon eyes gleaming faintly, “that within forty-eight hours, Hartford Group will be scrambling to get Quinn back. And Zachary Hartford will be apologizing for every insult, every slight, every moment of disrespect.”

Karen turned to Brandon, who’d been silently watching this exchange with growing unease. “Do you hear this? Your son-in-law has lost his mind! He thinks he controls Titan Group! He thinks Owen Cooper answers to him!”

Brandon’s response was cautious. “Marcus… you can’t seriously believe…”

“Believe what you want,” Marcus interrupted. “In two days, you’ll see.”

Quinn stepped forward, her hand finding Marcus’s. Her Saintess aura blazed with conviction that made both parents flinch. “I’ve never regretted marrying Marcus. My sacred intuition guided me to him when everyone said I was making a mistake. That guidance has never been wrong.”

“Your sacred intuition?” Karen’s voice rose with fresh outrage. “Is BROKEN! It led you to marry a nobody! To throw away opportunities! To-”

“To find my destined partner,” Quinn finished firmly. “The man who will stand beside me when everyone else abandons me. The man who protects my honor when my own family tries to destroy it. The man who-”

“Who has BRAINWASHED you!” Karen interrupted. “The Quinn I raised would never-”

“The Quinn you raised,” Quinn said coldly, “learned to endure disrespect and abuse because fighting back only made things worse. But I’m done being that Quinn. I’m done letting this family use me while treating my husband like garbage.”

She turned to Marcus. “Can we go upstairs? I need to be away from this.”

“Of course,” Marcus said gently.

As they climbed the stairs together, Karen’s voice followed them, shrill and desperate. “You’ll regret this! Both of you! When Hartford Group replaces Quinn and we lose everything, you’ll see what your pride has cost us!”

Marcus didn’t respond. Didn’t even look back.

CHAPTER 54 PART 2

Behind them, Karen collapsed on the couch, her dreams of a better car and elevated status crumbling like sand castles in the tide.

Across the city, in Titan Group’s executive tower, Leonardo Lancaster strode through the hallways with barely contained triumph. In his briefcase sat a folder of carefully compiled evidence-photographs of Skyler Reed lending the company Rolls-Royce to Quinn Hartford, records of meetings between them, testimony from Hartford Group employees about their “suspicious” relationship.

After years of watching Skyler advance while Leonardo stagnated, this was finally his moment. His chance to expose Reed’s misconduct, get him fired, and claim his position.

He burst into Chairman Owen Cooper’s office without knocking, his confidence absolute.

“Chairman Cooper!” Leonardo announced. “I have urgent information about Vice President Reed that requires your immediate attention!”

Owen looked up from his desk, his expression neutral. “Make it quick, Lancaster. I’m busy.”

Leonardo spread his documents across the desk like a prosecutor presenting damning evidence. “Skyler Reed has been abusing company resources for personal gain. He lent our corporate Rolls-Royce to Quinn Hartford-a woman he’s romantically involved with-multiple times. He used his position to promote her to project manager despite her limited experience. He’s compromised the Titan-Hartford partnership for personal reasons!”

He stepped back, awaiting the shocked outrage, the immediate demands for Reed’s termination.

Owen examined the documents carefully. Read each page. Studied the photographs.

Then he looked up at Leonardo with an expression that made the ambitious executive’s confidence falter.

“You’re fired,” Owen said simply.

Leonardo blinked. “I… what?”

“You’re fired,” Owen repeated, his voice hardening. “Effective immediately. Security will escort you out. You have thirty minutes to clear your desk.”

“But… but I just gave you EVIDENCE!” Leonardo sputtered. “Proof that Reed is-”

“Proof that you’re a backstabbing opportunist who destroys colleagues instead of building business,” Owen interrupted coldly. “Proof that you waste time compiling dossiers on coworkers rather than focusing on your own performance. Proof that you have no understanding of loyalty, discretion, or professional conduct.”

“Chairman Cooper, you don’t understand-”

“I understand perfectly,” Owen’s voice could have frozen helium. “You saw an opportunity to eliminate a rival and took it. You fabricated a narrative of impropriety where none exists. And you thought bringing me this garbage would result in a promotion.”

He stood, his imposing frame making Leonardo take an involuntary step backward.
