Saintess's Worthless Husband Turned Dragon Commander novel Chapter 57

Chapter 57 Part 1

Zachary Hartford stood in the narrow hallway, surrounded by hundreds of his employees, his face a mask of barely controlled fury. Behind him, Oliver nursed his bruised ribs, his expression oscillating between pain and vindictive anticipation.

“This is absurd,” Zachary finally said, his voice carrying forced calm. “Quinn, you’re my granddaughter. Marcus, you’re family-however unfortunate that reality may be. We should discuss this privately, not in front of the entire company.”

“Why?” Marcus asked simply. “Embarrassed to have your employees witness how you actually treat family?”

“I’m trying to show RESPECT by coming here personally!” Zachary’s voice rose slightly. “I brought the entire company as you demanded! Now stop this nonsense and let’s resolve this like adults!”

“Adults,” Marcus repeated, a slight smile playing at his lips. “You mean like when you and Oliver conspired with Leonardo Lancaster to destroy Skyler Reed? Was that adult behavior?”

Several employees in the hallway pulled out phones, recording now. This was getting interesting.

“That’s company business,” Zachary said tightly. “Not relevant to-

“It’s extremely relevant,” Marcus interrupted. “Because that ‘adult’ decision just cost Hartford Group a twenty billion dollar penalty. And now you’re here, hat in hand, hoping Quinn’s return will convince Owen Cooper to show mercy.”

Zachary’s jaw clenched. “We’re here to WELCOME Quinn back to-”

“You’re here because you have no choice,” Marcus corrected. “Let’s not pretend this is magnanimity. You need Quinn. She doesn’t need you.”

Oliver stepped forward, his damaged face twisted with rage. “You think you can speak to my grandfather that way? To the chairman of Hartford Group? You’re nothing but-”

“But what?” Marcus’s voice went cold. “Finish that sentence, Oliver. Tell everyone here what you really think of me.”

Oliver’s mouth opened, then closed. Even he wasn’t stupid enough to say it in front of hundreds of recording phones.

“Three years ago,” Marcus said, his voice carrying clearly down the hallway, “Zachary Hartford was dying. An incurable illness that no doctor could treat. No medication could slow. He had months, maybe weeks left.”

Zachary’s face went pale. “How do you -”

“Quinn married me,” Marcus continued, ignoring the interruption, “because her Saintess intuition told her I could save him. And I did. I provided the cure that Western medicine couldn’t. I gave you years of life you shouldn’t have had.”

He stepped closer to Zachary, dragon eyes blazing. “And how did you repay that gift? By treating me like garbage. By allowing your family to mock me, humiliate me, exclude me from every gathering. By permitting Oliver to scheme against Quinn while pretending to support her.”

“That’s not “Zachary started.

“You disrespect the Sacred Saintess with your ingratitude,” Marcus’s voice cut like a blade. “You dishonor her sacrifice in marrying me to save your worthless life.”

The employees in the hallway gasped. Several recorded more intently. This was going viral for sure.

Zachary’s face cycled through emotions-shock, rage, calculation. “If what you say is true- and I’m not admitting anything-then we’re grateful. But that doesn’t give you the right to-”

“To what? Demand basic respect?” Marcus laughed without humor. “To expect my wife’s family to treat her with dignity? To insist her grandfather acknowledge her value?”

He turned to Quinn, who stood on the stairs, her Saintess aura glowing with quiet pride. “The question isn’t whether I have the right to make demands. The question is whether you have the right to expect forgiveness after three years of abuse.”

Zachary tried to reclaim control. “Quinn, sweetheart, your grandfather is here. The entire company is here. We’re offering you a chance to return to your position with-”

“With what?” Quinn interrupted, her voice carrying divine authority. “With the same lack of support? The same undermining? The same expectation that I’ll tolerate disrespect because ‘family’?”

“We’ll do better,” Zachary promised, though the words sounded hollow, “Oliver will be disciplined. The company culture will improve. Just give us another chance.”

Marcus smiled-his terrifying smile that made survival instincts scream. “Actually, I’ve changed my mind.”

Everyone tensed.

“Quinn won’t be returning tomorrow,” Marcus continued. “Or the next day. In fact, she won’t return until every single person who mocked her, undermined her, or treated her with disrespect has publicly apologized.”

“That’s HUNDREDS of people!” Oliver exploded. “That would take-”

“However long it takes,” Marcus finished calmly. “And it starts with you, Oliver.”

Oliver’s face flushed. “I’m not apologizing to—”

SLAP!

Marcus’s hand moved faster than most people could track. The blow caught Oliver across his already-damaged face with devastating precision. Oliver’s head snapped sideways, blood flying from his split lip, his body stumbling backward into the employees behind him.

“That’s for three years of schemes,” Marcus said calmly.

Oliver tried to straighten, his hand going to his face-

SLAP!

Another blow, harder this time. Oliver’s legs gave out. He collapsed to his knees, blood dripping onto the carpet.

“That’s for the Azure Pierce incident,” Marcus continued.

“STOP THIS!” Zachary roared. “Security! Someone-”

But none of the Hartford Group employees moved. Some recorded. Some watched with barely concealed satisfaction. But none intervened.

Because they’d all seen Oliver’s cruelty. His casual abuse of power. His schemes against Quinn. And watching him finally face consequences was… cathartic.

Oliver tried to crawl away. Marcus grabbed him by his collar, hauled him upright, and delivered another devastating slap.

“That’s for every time you mocked Quinn’s marriage in front of the company.”

SLAP!

“For every meeting where you undermined her authority.”

SLAP!

“For convincing your grandfather to conspire against Skyler Reed.”

SLAP!

“For every single moment of humiliation you inflicted on my wife.”

Oliver collapsed completely, his face a mess of blood and swelling, barely conscious. The mighty Oliver Hartford, heir to the family fortune, reduced to a broken heap in his own company’s hallway.

Marcus released him, letting him crumple to the floor.

“Anyone else want to question my right to make demands?” Marcus asked the crowd calmly.

Silence. Absolute, terrified silence.

Zachary stared at his grandson’s broken form, then at Marcus, calculation warring with fury in his eyes. “You’ve made your point.”

“Have I?” Marcus stepped closer to the patriarch. “Because from where I’m standing, you still think this is negotiation. That you have leverage. That Quinn needs Hartford Group more than Hartford Group needs her.”

He gestured to the hundreds of employees filling the hallway. “These people know the truth. They’ve watched Quinn work twice as hard for half the recognition. They’ve seen Oliver’s incompetence covered up by family privilege. They know exactly who deserves respect and who’s been coasting on an inherited name.”

Quinn descended the stairs, her Saintess aura blazing with power that made even Zachary take an involuntary step backward. She stood beside Marcus, her hand finding his.

“I’ll return to Hartford Group,” Quinn said, her voice carrying divine authority, “when my grandfather personally apologizes. Not offers terms. Not makes promises. Actually apologizes for three years of allowing his family to abuse the woman who saved his life.”

She looked at the employees recording this moment. “And when every person in this company who participated in that abuse does the same. Publicly. On record. Until then, consider my resignation official.”
