CHAPTER 68 PART 1

The Hartford Group boardroom felt like a pressure cooker ready to explode. Oliver Hartford stood at the head of the table, his face flushed with vindictive triumph as board members murmured their agreement with his
assessment.
“Marcus Steel has brought disaster upon us all!” Oliver declared, his voice carrying across the room. “The Golden Eagle Group controls half the construction in Five-River Province! They can destroy our supply chains, block our permits, strangle our projects! And why? Because this violent criminal-” he pointed at Marcus with theatrical disgust, “-attacked their heir and disgraced the Sacred Saintess in the process!”
“I did hit him,” Marcus said calmly from his seat beside Quinn.
The room went silent.
“I hit Quamaine Potter,” Marcus continued, his voice carrying no apology whatsoever. “Multiple times. Made him bark like a dog. Had him crawl on his hands and knees. And I’d do it again.”
“You ADMIT it?” Oliver’s eyes went wide with delighted shock. “You admit to assaulting the Potter family heir in public?”
“He insulted my wife,” Marcus said simply. “He demanded I kneel. He thought his status made him untouchable. “Dragon eyes met Oliver’s. “He was wrong. Just like you’re wrong now.”
Zachary Hartford cleared his throat, trying to regain control of the meeting. “Marcus, regardless of provocation, you’ve put this entire company at risk. The Golden Eagle Group’s retaliation could cost us hundreds of millions in
“Check your Titan Group contract,” Marcus interrupted. “Section 12, Clause 4. Any hostile action taken against Quinn Hartford or her immediate family results in automatic termination of all Golden Eagle partnerships with Titan subsidiaries.”
The statement landed like a bomb. Several board members immediately pulled up the contract on their tablets, frantically scrolling through pages.
“He’s right,” one executive breathed. “It’s here. Clear as day. If the Potter family moves against Hartford Group while Quinn is employed here, Titan Group cuts them off completely.”
Zachary’s face went from triumphant to concerned. “But surely the Potter family’s connections would-”
“Would mean nothing,” Marcus finished. “Titan Group is bigger, richer, and more influential than Golden Eagle could ever hope to be. The Potters picked a fight they can’t win.”
Oliver’s confident smile faltered, but he rallied quickly. “Even so, the damage to our reputation, the viral video, the public humiliation-someone needs to take responsibility!”
He pulled out his phone, making a show of a text message. “Which is why I’ve invited Quamaine Potter himself to this meeting. To see if we can negotiate some kind of resolution before this escalates further.”
The boardroom doors burst open.
Quamaine Potter strode in, his face still showing faint bruising from their Ocean Park encounter, flanked by twelve bodyguards in expensive suits. Each guard carried the professional lethality of trained fighters, their eyes scanning the room for threats.
“There he is,” Quamaine said, his voice dripping with vindictive satisfaction as he spotted Marcus. “The man who thinks he can humiliate the Potter family and walk away.”

Marcus stood slowly, his dragon aura beginning to manifest-barely visible to normal eyes, but Quinn’s Saintess senses detected it immediately, making her divine powers flicker in response.
“You brought bodyguards to a business meeting?” Marcus asked mildly.
“For safety,” Quamaine smiled cruelly. “Since you’re clearly violent and unstable. My father suggested I have protection when dealing with rabid animals.”
“Rabid animals,” Marcus repeated thoughtfully.
Then he moved.
His speed was superhuman-dragon-enhanced reflexes making him blur across the space between them. His fist connected with Quamaine’s jaw with a sound like a gunshot.
Quamaine’s head snapped backward. Blood sprayed from his split lip. His body lifted off the ground and crashed into the conference table, sending water glasses flying.
The twelve bodyguards reacted instantly, converging on Marcus from all sides, professional training making their coordination impressive.
It didn’t matter.
Marcus’s palm caught the first guard in the solar plexus, sending him flying backward into two others. His elbow drove into another’s temple, dropping him instantly. A spinning kick caught three more, their professional techniques useless against dragon power that operated beyond human limitations.
In fifteen seconds, all twelve bodyguards lay scattered across the Hartford Group boardroom-unconscious, groaning, or curled up in pain.
Quinn sat frozen, her Saintess eyes wide, her divine senses detecting power that made her sacred training seem inadequate. Ancient energy. Primal force. Something that predated even her holy bloodline.
What is he? The question screamed through her consciousness even as protective instinct made her aura flare
around him.
Quamaine pushed himself up from the table, blood dripping from his mouth, terror replacing arrogance. “You… you dare…”
Marcus grabbed him by his designer shirt, lifting him easily. “I dare quite a lot. But you already knew that. So why did you come here? What did Oliver promise you?”
“I don’t know what-”

CHAPTER 68 PART 2
Marcus’s foot swept Quamaine’s leg, the impact shattering his kneecap with sickening precision. Quamaine’s scream filled the boardroom, echoing off expensive walls.
“Try again,” Marcus said calmly, holding Quamaine upright despite his ruined leg. “Oliver Hartford contacted you. Set up this meeting. Why?”
“He… he said…” Quamaine gasped through pain and tears, “…said you’d back down if I confronted you publicly… said the board would side with Potter money over Titan connections… said-”
“Said he’d help you destroy me in exchange for what?” Marcus demanded.
Quamaine’s eyes found Oliver, who’d gone pale. “For… for information. About your movements. Your wife’s schedule. He said… said if we could catch you alone…”
The implication hung in the air like poison.
Marcus’s dragon aura exploded outward, making the conference room lights flicker. His eyes found Oliver, who was already backing toward the door.
“You leaked Quinn’s information to a journalist,” Marcus said, his voice carrying death. “You coordinated with the Potter family. You tried to set up an ambush. All to eliminate me and… what? Take credit for salvaging the company?”
“I don’t know what he’s talking about!” Oliver’s voice cracked. “He’s lying! I would never-”
Marcus’s phone buzzed. A text from Aaron: Confirmed. Ben Azure received info package from Oliver’s email. Payment traced to Hartford Group discretionary fund. He’s guilty.
Marcus showed the phone to the room. “Aaron Jackson’s investigation. Complete with evidence, timestamps, financial records. Oliver Hartford coordinated with the Potter family, leaked sensitive information about a Sacred Saintess, and participated in planning what amounts to attempted murder.”
“LIES!” Oliver shrieked. “All lies! You can’t prove-”
Marcus crossed the distance between them in a blur. His fist caught Oliver square in the face with dragon- enhanced force. Oliver’s nose shattered, blood exploding across his features. His body lifted off the ground and crashed against the wall with enough impact to crack plaster.
“That’s for endangering Quinn,” Marcus said calmly.
He grabbed Oliver by his collar, hauling him up, and delivered another devastating punch. “That’s for betraying your own family.”
Another strike, this one to Oliver’s ribs. The crack of breaking bones was audible. “And that’s for thinking you could get away with it.”
