Chapter 108

Scarlett’s POV

I entered a dining room that felt almost regal, the kind of room that invited reverence. A polished, fourseater wooden table dominated the space, its surface gleaming under the warm, intimate light. The craftsmanship was beautiful, a reminder of the my father once had. It felt oddly nostalgic, though I tried to push that thought away. The décor was a touch extravagant, befitt an Alpha who had the means to spare, and though I was alone at the table, the soft elegance of my beige gown kept me from fe out of place. I never would have guessed that the stranger I’d waved down on the highway would lead me here, to such a strang almost surreal new beginning.

A voice cut through my thoughts. Alpha Keith Harold is making an entrance.

My heart skipped a beat. My mates had spoken of a different Alpha in the West, and the name Keith Harold was unfamiliar. I scrambled to my feet, hands trembling with nerves. What if this Alpha didn’t take kindly to a stranger? What if he saw through me saw the mess I was hiding beneath my calm exterior?

Then, a tall, striking figure entered the room alongside Ebenezer. Annika! You look exquisite,Ebenezer said, his eyes lighting up as he approached. His easy grin helped, but I couldn’t keep my eyes off the Alpha by his side.

Keith Harold was imposing in the most effortless way. He had dark hair, neatly combed back, and intense blue eyes that seemed to hold secrets I couldn’t begin to understand. His beard was meticulously trimmed, and there was an undeniable strength in his build,

one that matched the power radiating from him. He couldn’t have been much older than twentyeight or so, but the air of authority

he carried left no doubt he was the Valkin Alpha of the West.

greeted him with a respectful nod, feeling my cheeks warm when he took my hand and pressed a polite kiss to it, his blue eyes catching mine for a brief moment. The man was a charmer, but something about him felt carefully restrained, like he was constantly

calculating.

Keith, meet my friend Annika,Ebenezer said, gesturing to me. She just moved to the West, and I thought it might be nice if she

worked for you.

Alpha Keith motioned for us to sit, and I did so, feeling a mix of gratitude and apprehension. Servants appeared almost instantly, setting plates before us with the precision of a choreographed dance. The food/looked delicious, but I was too tense to do much more than pick at it, my mind racing with every glance Keith sent my way. He studied me in a way that felt almostprobing, as if he were trying to unearth secrets I hadn’t spoken aloud.

We ate mostly in silence, the occasional murmurs between Keith and Ebenezer floating past me. Every bite felt like a test, and though I tried to relax, I could sense Keith’s watchful eyes lingering.

Finally, as dessert was served, Keith leaned back in his chair, an enigmatic smile playing at the corners of his mouth. His eyes flicked over me, curious and a little too perceptive.

Annika, he began, his voice smooth but

Chapter 108

His words landed with the weight of a challenge, and my stomach twisted painfully. I hadn’t expected him to address the mark, so directly, nor had I anticipated the pang of bitterness that surged up at the mention of my mates. I could feel his gaze sharp on me watching for a reaction. I took a steadying breath, praying to the goddess that one day I would be free of the bønd entirely.

I left them. They were abusive. The words slipped out before I could hold them back, a quick, blunt truth. Keith’s gaze softened as he took in my words, but a faint smile lingered on his lips.

I won’t pry, Annika,he replied, his tone careful. But it feels like there’s more to that story. You don’t justrun from Alphas His words hung in the air, a subtle hint that he sensed the complexity of my past. A cold wave of fear washed over me What if he knew? Where would that leave me now?

Relax, Annika,he said, sensing my tension. You’re welcome here. The West is a place for second chances. Afresh start for anyone who needs one.
