Scarlett (Second Edition) by Karima Saad Usman novel Chapter 179

hapter 179

Clay’s POV

Flsa arrived, looking exhausted, a crystal glinting in her hand. She gently placed it around Sarlett’s neck, han gaze shadowed with worry. Scarlets had been under for six hours now, and we’d taken turns keeping her body warm, hoping it would help her pull through. My only that was how the’d react when the woke up to find herself here.

“So, what’s happening to her?” Lucian asked, desperation etched into his voice, echoing all of our fears.

Elsa glanced at Scarlett, then back at us, her face filled with resignation. “She’s having a vision. Her magic is keeping her under, making sure she sees whatever it is the universe wants her to see.” She shook her head, clearly frustrated by the limits of her own power.

“There’s only so much I can do. Her magic is powerful-ancient, even. This isn’t something spells or crystals can break. It has to run its course.

Her words made sense, but they didn’t ease the ache in my chest. I wanted so desperately to pull Scarlett out of whatever dark place she was trapped in.

“What about her temperature?” I asked, unable to shake the worry. Her skin had remained far too cold, and it seemed unnatural, even for her condition.

Elsa sighed, her gaze softening as she looked down at Scarlett. “Her wolf is still young, Maxwell. This power is ancient and vast, and it’s hard for her to control, which is why her body is reacting this way. Eventually, she’ll learn to harness it, but it will take time.” Her expression was full of pity, and I shared that feeling entirely. I wished, more than anything, that I could somehow take on even a fraction of her burden.

“Your bond with her will help her pull through faster. Stay close to her,” Elsa added, a small comfort in the middle of our worries. At least now we’d have a reason to explain why we’d brought her to our apartment and stayed by her side.

As Elsa’s words settled over us, I took Scarlett’s hand, feeling the connection between us, the bond that was still there, strong and real. Lucian and Clay exchanged a glance, each of us silently resolved to keep her safe through this. We would stay close, offer our strength, and hope that, somehow, it would be enough to bring her back to us.

“When she wakes, let me know immediately,” Elsa said as she prepared to leave. “I need to know what she’s seen. She must’ve borrowed some of Keith’s magic somehow-he’s the only one known for this kind of vision. I’m hesitant to jump to conclusions, but I believe Scarlett might have the ability to borrow and learn abilities just by coming into contact with another’s magic. It’s incredibly powerful but also dangerously susceptible to corruption.”

She looked down at Scarlett, her face lined with worry. “Anyway, don’t let me get ahead of myself. Just let me know when she’s up. Right now, I seed a hot

bath and a decent meal.”

She left quietly, her footsteps fading down the hallway, leaving us alone with Scarlett. I looked at her, lying still under the covers, and I’d never felt so

desperate.

“Please, Scarlett… wake up,” I whispered, hoping my voice would somehow reach her, pull her back from wherever she was.

It was my turn to keep her warm, and as I settled beside her, Lucian reluctantly let go of her hand, and I took over.

Every so often, she would mumble our names in her sleep, her voice soft and distant, a glimmer of recognition in her dream state.

Then, Keith’s name would slip from her lips, and she’d fall silent again. It stung, hearing her call out to him, but I knew it was our fault. We’d pushed her away, and Keith had been there for her in ways we hadn’t. Still, holding her close, feeling the fragility of her life in my arms, I made a promise to myself-a quiet vow that if we ever got another chance, I would never let her down again. I would protect her with everything I had, keep her safe from all the pain.

that had haunted her.

the middle of the night, explett stured, her body shifting slightly under my arm. I glanced over at Maxwell and Lucian, both fast asleep, only down by Hota 21 worry and watching over her. It left me alone with her, and my heart raced with both hope and a creeping anxiety I wored about her resistors, how she’d feet waking op next to me, still in our bed. I thought of getting en, of putting some distance between us, but she was still showering slightly, stil cold to the touch.
