Scarlett’s POV

Keith was sitting on a couch, his posture relaxed but weary, chatting animatediy with Maxwell and Clay. His clothes were worn and bloodied, and his fac

carried the weight of exhaustion, but he was alive. Beside him sat a striking red-haired woman, her appearance similarly battle-worn but vibrant. I didn’

know who the was, and in that moment, it didn’t matter.

Tears welled up in my eyes, and I began to question if what I was seeing was real. Was this a dream? My mind played cruel tricks on me often enough, w

visions that blurred the line between reality and fantasy. What if this was just another one?

“Keith” I managed to say, my voice barely above a whisper.

His head turned toward me, and the moment his eyes met mine, everything felt real. He smiled, and I didn’t wait another second. I rushed toward him, a

as he stood, I threw my arms around him, holding him tightly as tears streamed down my face.

“I thought you were… they said you were…” My voice broke, unable to finish the sentence.

He held me just as tightly, his warmth grounding me as he spoke softly. “I would have been, Scarlett, if you hadn’t warned me beforehand.”

He pulled back slightly to look at me, his gaze soft and filled with concern. “How are you?” he asked gently.

I laughed shakily, tears still falling, unsure how to answer. Before I could say anything/ Clay chimed in with a grin. “She’s better now that she knows you’

safe.”

I turned to glare at Clay half-heartedly, pouting at his teasing. Maxwell, ever the calm and composed one, added, “Honestly, Scarlett has been a shell sinc we came back with the bad news. She refused to believe you were dead. She needed to see your body before she could accept it. I think something deep

down told her you weren’t gone.”

I turned back to Keith, my mind racing with questions. The relief of seeing him alive was overwhelming, but I needed answers. “How?” I asked, my voice

filled with equal parts curiosity and disbelief.

“After you spoke to me on the phone,” Keith began, his voice steady but reflective, “I’ll admit, it was hard for me to accept that someone out there could defeat me. But I trusted your words and your magic. Instead of focusing on a defense plan, I came up with an escape plan. It wasn’t an easy choice, but 1

knew it was the only way to protect as many as I could.”

He sighed heavily, the weight of his decisions clear in his tone. “I also warned all the Western Alphas to surrender if the rider came. But they were too stubborn for their own good That’s why the rider–who I’ve since learned bas taken up your father’s name was able to lay waste to parts of the West. Had Those Alphas listened, they would still be standing. Instead, some of them thought engaging the rider would force me into a direct battle. They didn’t

understand the danger, Scarlett. They didn’t listen.”

His gaze darkened for a moment, and his voice grew quieter “It wasn’t easy getting away from Woodshire. We lost good men in the process, but some of m

troops survived. Others are scattered with weapons, waiting for my signal to regroup. I made sure they had escape plans of their own.”

Hearing this, my heart ached for the losses he had suffered, but I was grateful for his foresight and that he was here, alive and safe. Without thinking, I

hugged him tightly again, relief washing over me

Keith returned the embrace briefly before pulling back, his expression softening as he regarded me. “Your magic feels more stable now,” he commented,

tilting his head as if to assess me further

I broke the hog and nodded, giving a small smile. “Apparently, three of the five elements belong to my mates,” I said, glancing toward Maxwell and Clay,
