Scarlett’s POV
“I am nobody’s puppet!” young Nikolay snapped, his voire laced with arrogance and disdain. “I am the true heir of Nikolay Vladislav, a Valkin alpha in my own right. And if I desire to take what is mine, so be it!”
His declaration hung in the cold air, but I wasn’t impressed. “Rulesover what?” I asked sharply. “Rule over whatever David tells you to rule? Be the king of his schemes?”
For a moment, his fury was silenced, his expression hardening. He might have a temper, but he wasn’t a talker-his silence was telling
“So, what do you want?” Lucian asked, his tone steady but strained.
David answered for him, stepping forward with a cruel smile. “What we’re here to take,” he said, his voice dripping with malice.
“The North and that bitch.” His eyes flicked to me, and the venom in his gaze was palpable. “I promised Nikolay he’d have his revenge on the daughter of
the woman who murdered his mother. Hand everything over, especially her. She’s useless anyway. Other than bed-warming, I don’t see what value a wolfless
bitch like her brings.”
Lucian growled, stepping protectively in front of me. His stance was defensive, his body a barrier between David and me. I could feel the rage boiling inside
him, the threat clear in every line of his posture.
“It shouldn’t be this hard, Lucian,” David continued smoothly, as if he were trying to reason with a friend. “We had a deal. You can always find someone
else, someone better, and live your lives peacefully under Nikolay’s rule. It’s a win-win for all three of you. Everyone knows you’re the most useless Valkin
Alphas to exist.”
Lucian’s fists clenched, but he didn’t respond, letting David’s words hang in the air.
David smirked, sensing the tension. “Your parents are probably rolling in their graves, you know. Their thirst for conquest and chaos blinded them to the one thing they should have focused on-raising their children. Look at the mess they left behind.”
His gaze shifted to Lucian, his smirk growing darker. “And your brother-in-law, Lucian. His greed was his undoing. Did he really think he could run a rebellion without being found out by Nikolay? If it’s any consolation, I’m the one who dealt with that problem.”
The casual tone in his voice as he confessed to atrocities was sickening. “I murdered that family-husband, children, all of them. Your sister lost her mind when I eliminated her family. But loose ends are dangerous, aren’t they? Japhet was an idiot, and so was his family. They had to go. I couldn’t risk Nikolay
having another enemy.”
Lucian’s breathing grew heavier, the weight of David’s words pressing down on him like a physical blow. His protective stance turned predatory, and I could feel his magic crackling faintly in the air.
David chuckled, clearly enjoying the chaos he was creating. “Oh, and that handkerchief she left behind? That was me. I left it there after I’d finished off her husband and children. She used it to take her own life. Nikolay didn’t even know about that operation, but it served my purpose beautifully. It wiped out, potential threats, and let’s be honest,” he said, patting young Nikolay’s shoulder like a proud parent, “the boy needed a clean slate to rise to power. I gave
him that.”
He smiled at young Nikolay, who looked slightly unsettled but said nothing. “He wasn’t fit to rule before,” David continued. “But now? He’s ready. He’s the
future”

Fast and a dangerous one at that. I stepped forward, my voice sharp and onwavering.
“And you think this is the way to build your ‘better world, Nikolay? By following the man who admits to manipulating and murdering for his own gain? If you truly believe David cares about by, then you’re even more naive than I thought.”
Nikolay’s growl deepened, his dark magic swirling around him like a storm. But behind the fery, I caught a flicker of doubt in his eyes. Just for a moment. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to make me wonder if there was stift a sliver of hope buried beneath all that hatred.
Lucian growled, his rage vibrating through the air as his magic flickered dangerously around him. His pain was palpable, and I knew the betrayal was cutting deep. Everything he had suffered, all the blame he had carried, was for nothing. He had hated the wrong man, while the real culprit stood there smirking.
“You bastard!” Lucian roared, his fists clenched, ready to strike. I stepped forward, placing my hand on his chest, grounding him before he could act on his
emotions.
“Do not let your anger cloud your judgment,” I said firmly, holding him back. His fiery orange eyes flicked to mine, and I could see the struggle within him
to stay in control.
