Scarlett’s POV
The corruption from Nikolay’s dark aura showed itself as faint black smoke weaving into the flames. I ignore it win.

With a snarl, I lunged at Nikolay. We collided mid-air, teeth, claws, and raw power clashing in a blur of grey and green.
The battle became a blur of instincts and strategy. He was fast and strong-I had to give him that. But I was strenger.
“He’s trying to steal our magic. Be careful,” Midnight warned through the link as our teeth snapped at his feck.
I tried to find an opening, to bite down on his spine and end it. But he was as relentless as I was, his jaws snapping at my hind leg. Pain shot through me as he managed to push me back, but I didn’t relent.
The fight was vicious. I sent waves of magic his way–fire, earth, water, and wind-but he overcame each attack with a tenacity that rivaled my own.
My flames scorched his fur, leaving blackened patches that he quickly healed. His wounds knitted together almost instantly, his magic feeding his waif’s resilience. Every attack I landed seemed to lose its impact as he regained what he’d lost.
I realized then what Midnight had meant. He wasn’t just trying to overpower me-he was draining me. My magic, my strength, my very essence was feeding him, restoring him even as I struck him down. It was a cruel and insidious strategy, one that would eventually tip the scales in his favor.
I roared, channeling everything I had into one more attack. My claws raked across his side, sending a spray of blood into the snow. But even as he stumbled, the energy he siphoned from me bolstered him.
His dark magic pulsed through the battlefield like a second heartbeat, and I felt myself weakening with every moment.
Keith hadn’t been able to defeat him, and now I understood why. He wasn’t just a Valkin with dark magic-he was a parasite, drawing power from anyone
who dared to face him.
At this rate, I would fall. There was no denying it. He would bleed me dry, and when I was gone, he would move on to my mates.
“Midnight,” I whispered internally, desperation creeping into my thoughts. “We can’t let bi take us. If he wins-*
“He won’t,” she interrupted, her voice firm and resolute. “But you have to trust me. Trust us. This fight isn’t over yet.”

I didn’t know what Midnight meant, but I clung to her words like a lifeline. Despite the pain and the odds stacked against us, I refused to give up. wasn’t just about me-it was about everything we stood for, everything we loved. If I was going to fall, I would make sure I took him down with me
“Scarlett, are you okay?” Vin and Tiger’s voices linked to me, their concern cutting through the chaos.

It took me a moment to understand why, and then I realized I was bleeding, heavily. My fur was matted with blood, and my movements were growing sluggish. This fight, my first in wolf form, was far harder than I had anticipated. My body felt like it was betraying me, the energy draining faster than I
could recover it.
For a mosient, I considered surrendering to the inevitable. At this rate, I was going to die. But just as I was ready to throw in the towel, Midnight surged forward with a fierceness I hadn’t expected. Her presence projected outward, ghostly and ethereal, as though she were a spirit breaking free of my body.

Chapter 248
I watched in awe and desperation as my ghostly wolf form passed through young Nikolay’s wolf. It was a last-ditch effort, a gamble forted by the seed stagin we had warned from him-the same twisted magic he had used for Pill Clay and Magwell in my vision.
Nikolay’s magic was also a spirit elerent, inherited from his seer mother, though his version was tainted and abominable. Midnight’s projection stock him with precision, passing through him and returning to me in one swift, otherworldly movement.
Young Nikolay’s wolf collapsed, lifeless, his body hitting the blood-soaked ground with a dull thed.
“He is discorporated,” Midnight said, her voice triumphant yet weary.
The battlefield went eerily still. For a moment, no one moved, no one breathed. It was as if no one could believe what had just happened. The dark clouds that had loomed over us began to fade, retreating like smoke carried away by the wind. The weight of Nikolay’s presence lifted, and with it, the oppressive darkness that had threatened to consume us.
“We pulled his spirit from his body,” Midnight explained, and even though I knew it was true, I couldn’t fully process fe. What had we done? Was this the extent of my power?
But there was no time for reflection. The world around me blurred as exhaustion hit me like a tidal wave. My legs trembled, and I felt my body shifting back
to its human form, unable to maintain my wolf any longer. Blood continued to pour from my wounds, and the edges of my vision darkened. My strength was
gone, my reserves emptied.
The scent of sandalwood filled the air, comforting and familiar, just as strong arms swept me off the ground. I knew it was one of my mates-Lucian, judging by the intensity of his energy and the protective way he held me.
He was running, his heart pounding against my fading consciousness. I could feel his worry, his desperation, but I couldn’t reassure him. My vision continued to dim, the world slipping away as the darkness engulfed me.
