Chapter 53

Scarlett’s POV

The attackers brought an old, battered lorry rumbling up the road, and one by one, they ordered us to climb into the back. The sight of it sent a fresh wave

of terror through me. I couldn’t bear the thought of being taken away, disappearing into some dark fate with these cruel men. My hands shook, and silent

tears streamed down my face as I clung to a desperate hope my mates would come. They had to come.

When it was finally my turn, I tried to resist, hoping to buy a few more precious moments. I began to cry and pleaded, but Marvin’s patience was short. With

a flash of anger, he lashed my back with his belt, and pain exploded through me.

I cried out, my vision blurring from the sting, but I forced myself to move, climbing sluggishly into the lorry’s grimy, metal bed. Every step was a silent plea

for time, just a few more moments.

I stood in the back, my gaze fixed on the road, willing a miracle to appear. My heart pounded with dread as each second passed, and with every empty stretch of road, my hope began to fade. Maybemaybe they wouldn’t come. Maybe they wouldn’t make it in time. The heavy truth began to settle like a

stone in my chest.

The last of the captives were loaded into the back, and the attackers started talking among themselves, preparing to leave. I sank to my knees, tears falling harder now. Just as despair began to grip me completely, I heard ita low, fierce growl, primal and deadly. My heart leapt, and I whipped my head around

toward the sound.

There, emerging from the shadows, were three figures. My breath caught, and my heart soared when I recognised them. Tiger and Vinn were in wolf form, their powerful bodies moving with a deadly purpose. Beside them was a massive brown wolf, fierce and imposing, and I knew it had to be Maxwell. Their eyes blazed with rage as they looked directly at me, and I felt the powerful connection between us surge with intensity, a force as fierce and unbreakable as

they were.

Relief washed over me like a wave, so strong it nearly took my breath away. They were here. My mates had come for me. I knew, in that moment, that

Marvin and his friends were done for.

These attackers might have been vicious, but they were ordinary werewolves. My mates were Valkin Alphas, powerful, merciless in battle. They wouldn’t

stand a chance.

The fight was a blur of motion and fury. I watched as my mates tore into the attackers, teeth and claws flashing, fur bristling with rage. They were relentless, tearing the men apart with a brutal efficiency that left no room for mercy.

I felt a fierce pride swell in my chest, a pride I had never felt before. My mates were fighting for me, risking everything to protect me. Tears fell down my

[ face, but this time, they weren’t tears of fear. They were tears of relief and gratitude.

It’s herthe bed warmer!one of the attackers shouted, finally realizing why my mates were in such a frenzy. He looked at me with wide, terrified eyes, and I felt an unexpected surge of triumph. They had thought they could take me, but they hadn’t counted on the bond I shared with my mates.

Mate. The word echoed in my mind, the voice of each one of them brushing against my thoughts, filling me with a sense of warmth and safety. I closed my eyes and reached back through the connection, letting them feel that I was okay, that I was safe.

In that moment, as I felt the strength of our bond, I knew that nothing in this world could ever truly break us.

Marvin shoved me roughly off the lorry, and I hit the ground hard, the cold metal of the silver chain biting into my wrists. But I didn’t careI was free of that truek, and I wasn’t going to leave the others behind. I tugged at the chain, calling to the other captives, urging them with frantic, desperate whispers, Jump! Now, while we have a chance!
