Scarlett (Second Edition) by Karima Saad Usman novel Chapter 66

hapter 66

I want to ask you some questions, said softly, watching her, hoping for some sign of acknowledgment. She didn’t respond, only stared back at me, her face an unreadable mask. I took her silence as permission to continue, feeling the weight of her disapproval, and plunged ahead regardless.

I want to know what dishes my mates prefer,I asked, hoping this would be a small step toward bridging the gap between us. But instead, Bianca let out a sharp, mocking laugh that echoed through the silent kitchen

She looked at me with something close to disdain. I don’t see a mark on your neck, Vladislav. Just like Stasia, you’re just a shiny new toy. I’ll deal with you once the Alphas are done with you,she sneered. If you want to know anything about your mates, maybe you should go ask them yourself.

Her words hit me like a slap, cold and cruel. I struggled to keep my composure, but the sting of her rejection burned deeply:

They were going to kill me,I said, trying to keep my voice steady. I had no choice.

Bianca’s expression darkened, rage flickering in her eyes. The least you could have done was die for something. Her voice trembled with restrained anger.

My daughter is in the infirmary, struggling to heal because she has no wolfbecause of you. I hope you can live with yourself. Her words cut deep, close to tears, the weight of a mother’s pain raw and clear.

I swallowed hard, feeling the ache in my chest. I don’t have a wolf either,I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. I could have died, too. My life might mean nothing to you, but it means everything to me.I paused, the frustration welling up inside me, and took a steadying breath. And the fact that you offered me to save yourself says a lot, too. I was really hoping we could move past what happened, but it’s clear you’re not ready to try.

Bianca’s jaw tightened, and I could see the anger and pain fighting for control in her gaze. As a gesture of kindness,I continued, choosing my words carefully, I won’t tell my mates about your behavior. I’ll take it as a mother grieving for her daughter and let it go.

I turned to leave, my heart heavy with disappointment, when I heard her voice/call me back.

Alpha Lucian likes beef Stroganoff, she said grudgingly, her voice softening just slightly. Alpha Maxwell loves a welldone steakhe’d eat it any time of day if he could. And Alpha Clayhe loves seafood, preferably wild catch. We usually grill it for him.

I stopped, a surge of gratitude filling me despite everything. I turned back to her, offering a small, genuine smile.

Thank you, Bianca,I said, feeling a glimmer of understanding between us, fragile but real She gave me a brief nod, her expression softening just enough that I saw the woman behind the anger, a mother still aching for her child.

Could I trouble you to make them what they like?I asked Bianca, hoping she’d agree. So they could have something they love waiting for them when they

come home? I’d join you in the cooking, of course.

She looked at me, a flicker of reluctance crossing her face. But then she nodded, her expression softening just a little.

I’m willing to take orders from you,I added, wanting her to know I respected her experience here. That seemed to break the tension, and she gave me a

small smile.

Grab yourself an apron, and I hope you’re good with a knife, she said with a smirk, and I couldn’t help but laugh along with her.

I wonder what she’ll have to do to gain their respect. right now the only reason they listen to her is because of the alphas. I hope she can win some of them over.
