Scarlett
Chapter 98
But what would we search for? I didn’t have an answer, and neither did they. We returned to our quarters, and I slumped onto the floor, my thoughts a
chaotic mess. This was all my fat If I’d never let Gregory into our lives, we wouldn’t be here. We wouldn’t be lost, broken, searching for Scarlett. At this
point, I didn’t even care if she had slept with him. I just wanted her back. I’d trade anything to undo this.
*I think we should see Elsa,” Maxwell said, breaking the silence, his voice filled with urgency. “She might be able to sense where Scarlett is. Let’s not waste
any more time.”
It was the first suggestion that made sense, and I grabbed onto it like a lifeline. Elsa, the seer, could help us, could give us a direction, something solid to hold onto. I didn’t care how far we had to go or what we had to sacrifice. All that mattered was finding Scarlett.
Maxwell’s face darkened as he spoke. “We should have listened to Elsa when she warned us about this. The elders have done nothing but poison everything. They wanted Scarlett gone from the start, just because she was wolfless, just because she didn’t have magic. They never wanted her to lead with us. We’re
better off without them.”
Clay’s growl rumbled through the room, low and filled with raw fury. “If we don’t get Scarlett back, I’ll slaughter every single one of them,” he swore. “I don’t care if they strip me of my title, if I’m no longer considered a leader of the North. If we lose her because of their lies, there will be no mercy.”
For weeks now, Clay had been urging us to take out the elders, to stop waiting, to protect Scarlett before it was too late. But Maxwell and I had clung to the hope that we could exonerate her, clear her name, and prove Bianca’s lies for what they were. We thought we could do it the right way, but we were wrong. And now, Scarlett had paid the price.
“But everyone believed Bianca,” Maxwell said, his voice raw with disbelief and regret. “They all turned against her. Even if Scarlett wanted to escape, to have one moment of freedom… who could blame her? We haven’t exactly given her a life worth staying for.”
He was right. None of us had made things easy for her, and if she’d tried to find some way to secure her future, to protect herself… how could we fault her for that? My heart twisted with the realization of how unfair we’d been. We had to find her. I didn’t care if it cost me my place in the North, my title, everything. My loyalty, my future, my heart–it was all hers.
“We find her, or I swear I’ll go insane,” I said, meeting the eyes of my friends. “If my people want an heir, they’ll have to forgive her. She’s the only one I
want by my side.”
They nodded, determination hardening in their expressions. We had wasted enough time already, lost in hesitation and regret. Now, we had a chance to make it right. We would see Elsa, and we would find Scarlett. This time, nothing would hold us back.
I linked my beta, relaying Gregory’s last known coordinates, giving him every detail, every lead, and telling him to follow it without delay. If we could capture Gregory, we’d have the evidence we needed to clear Scarlett’s name. If only she had waited a little longer. If only she’d trusted us just a little more.
As the afternoon sun began to wane, we set out to see Elsa, clinging to the fragile hope that we could find Scarlett, bring her home, and repair the damage we had done. With each step, I felt my resolve harden. We had to make this right. We couldn’t lose her–not like this.
