Chapter 206
I hurried forward, catching her before she fell. I pushed the keys to the SUV into her hand. “Drive back to pack territory. They’ll be waiting for you. Directions are plugged into the GPS,”
“N–n–no. I won’t leave you.” Her gaze flicked to Kaleb, so much fear in her eyes. But still she was vowing not to abandon me. It meant more than I could ever say.
“I’ll be okay. I promise.”
Kaleb scoffed in the background.
I pressed the keys more firmly into her palm. “Go.”
Abigail must’ve read something in my expression because she nodded slowly. I helped her into the vehicle and waited for it to start up. I watched as she slowly navigated down the hill.
Kaleb began a slow cap. “That really was touching. Something right out of the Hallmark Channel.”
gritted my teeth, turning back to him. “I’m here. What do you want?”
His eyes glinted under the moon. “There are two choices. Sever your bond or die.”
Even knowing the ultimatum was coming, my pulse still spiked. “What about a third choice?”
Kaleb arched a brow. “And what did you have in mind?”
Your death.”
He let out a bellowing laugh. “And just how are you going to make that happen?”
Now!I sent the command to everyone in my pack.
n a flash, shifters descended in wolf and human form. More than I could count with how quickly they moved. Shifters from the Ridgewood pack and far more hat I didn’t recognize. I caught sight of Cass‘ bond working in tandem to dispatch a group of enforcers. Then Vaughn as he leveled shifter after shifter, rumpling them to the ground as he used his pain gift.
Anson and River bounded into the fray in wolf form. They worked together in perfect synchronicity. Knox stood with Caspian, his gaze flicking around the battle, working to freeze our opponents whenever our wolves needed an upper hand.
Caleb let out a snarl as wolves charged in his direction, lifting his hands to the sky. Lightning cracked and thunder rolled. I knew I needed to move now. I hrust my hands forward, sending my energy flying, but just as I released it, a wolf launched into my side.
recognized the dark gray wolf’s scent as Jasmine’s, but not before her teeth sank into my side. I let out a howl of pain. My energy flew of its own volition, inking into her fur. Her body shook and spasmed, forcing her to release me.
scrambled to my feet, taking up a fighting position as a wolf with a blend of gold and silver fur charged towards us. Cass took up a position next to me as Jaz
narled.
Let’s finish this bitch, Cass said through my mind.
t’s past time. My side throbbed but none of that dulled the energy pulsing through my palms.
struck out, but Jaz darted around the blast of light, taking a chunk out of Cass‘ leg. I snarled, the rage at Jaz hurting my friend only fueling me on.
az feigned as if she was heading for me, but I knew she was trying to take Cass out and I was ready. I let a pulse of power fly. Jaz’s eyes widened as she caught sight of it heading in her direction, but it was too late for her to change course. The blast struck her right in the chest. I knew it was fatal before Jaz even hit the ground.
The weight of her death sat heavy on my soul, but she’d given us no other choice. Cass pushed into my side. It needed to happen.
I knew she was right. But a life, no matter how dark it had turned, had still been lost today.

A howl split the air and everything in me froze. Because I knew that sound almost at well as my own, River.
A dark brown wolf had sunk his jaws into River’s neck and showed no signs of stopping. Anson was close, but he was fighting off two wolves of his own. I lidn’t think, I simply let my energy fly. I didn’t force it, didn’t give it an order, I infused it with intention. To protect. To shield. To defend
he golden light streaked through the air, splitting into three streams. Those three bolts of energy were like heat–seeking missiles. They landed with epic force, letonating in their targets. The wolves were there one second and gone the next. Then I was running.
sank to my knees next to River. His chest rose and fell in rapid succession. My hands sank into his fur as my eyes closed. I pulled on that stream of golden nergy, funneling it into him. Come on, River.
lis body shuddered and I shoved more at him, pushing and pushing until I could feel the flesh knitting back together.
nough. I’m okay.
