Chapter 210

FIVE YEARS LATER

Okay, add a cup of the dry ingredients.I set the mixer on low as Crispin followed my instructions. Over the years, the chocolate crinkle cookies had become a staple. They marked celebrations, difficult moments, and sometimes just everyday whims. And Crispin had become my very best assistant.

Afternoons like this one were some of my favorites. All of my guys were scattered about the house while I spent some quality time with the now ourteen yearold. He’d been quiet today, but I’d come to realize that was simply the way Crispin was when he was working up to something. I simply let him be. and eventually, he’d get there all on his own.

motioned for him to add a bit more of the cocoa powder mixture, my rings catching on the light. There wasn’t a time they didn’t make me smile. My ngagement ring held a setting of five stones, one for each of my mates. My jaw had nearly hit the floor when they’d given it to me on my twentieth birthday.

Humans thought I was too young. There’d been whispers around town about me being pregnant. I’d just rolled my eyes and enjoyed my happy. No mallminded people were going to ruin it for me.

The day we’d all pledged our lives to one another on the cliffs behind our house had been the best of my life. My adoptive parents had never reentered my life. out that was all right. They’d given me care for a time, and I’d always be thankful for that. Instead, I was surrounded by those who would walk with me forever.

The woman I now felt comfortable calling Mom helped me every step of the way. From picking out a dress to choosing the perfect flowers. When I’d asked Mason to walk me down the aisle, he’d shed a few tears and told me it would be his honor. Cass had stood at my side as I promised my mates eternity and beyond. And it was Ivan who had bound us together.

Even though we already knew forever had been written in the stars, there was something about saying it out loud that had been another level of intimacy.

I asked Heather to homecoming.

My hand jerked on the mixer at Crispin’s words. I shut it off and turned towards him. That’s a big move.

Crispin winced. I know she’s human, but I reallylike her, Sen.

Oh, teenage hormones. I knew how those worked. If your heart’s telling you to go in that direction, then you should listen to it.

Others in our pack would say it was foolish, that humans and shifters shouldn’t mix. But I would never shut down Crispin that way. I wrapped an arm around his shoulders, pulling him in for a hug. Don’t listen to anyone else. You do what you think is right.

He grinned. Will you help me pick out a suit?

My nose stung and my eyes watered. You couldn’t keep me away.

My mom bustled into the kitchen. We gotta get going, C. You have practice in thirty minutes. She sent me a knowing look. These first dances are a killer.

grinned even if there were tears in my eyes. Abigail had taken Crispin in on a permanent basis. It had been exactly what she’d needed to come back to life. And f there was one thing I knew, it was that no one loved harder than she did.

gave Crispin one last squeeze and released him. We’ll go after school tomorrow. Ask Heather what color dress she’s wearing.

He scrunched up his nose. Why?

I ruffled his hair. Because we’ll match your tie to her dress, and she’ll think you are the most swoonworthy date she’s ever had.

Crispin’s eyes brightened at that. I’ll text her tonight.

My mom waved, following after Crispin. I grabbed a tissue from the box by the phone, dabbing at my eyes. Arms came around my waist as Vaughn nuzzled my

neck. What’s with the tears?

He’s growing up so fast.

Vaughn chuckled against my skin.
