The sound of the door of the hotel opening had Kaylee freezing clearly panicked and she grabbed her mother’s hand and moved to stand behind her as footsteps crossed towards the bedroom.

“What is going on in here and why is my little girl wide awake?” Gulliver’s voice questioned from the door.

“Daddy! It’s you! I was scared it was more bad people.” Her bottom lip trembled. “Daddy why do you have a cast on your arm and that sheet around your neck.” The earlier conversation she shared with her mother forgotten in the view of her father.

Using his chin he motioned to his arms, “had glass in my shoulder on this side and broke my arm in three places on the other side. My friend who is a doctor fixed my bones up and used a pin in them. Now I’ve got steel in my arm, so I’ll be even more powerful when I punch people in the face.”

January grunted knowing for him to comment such a thing he was definitely still high.

“Did you punch someone in the face?”

“Not tonight but I have before. You mom beat someone up though. It was wild. She broke her face.”

“She has a bunch of cuts on her body and a bruise as big as Papa’s dinner plate.” Kaylee made a wide circle with her hand. She stared at her mother in awe, you really rescued my dad?”

“Yes. It goes to show you Kaylee, princesses don’t need princes to save them,” Gulliver said as he yawned loudly and sat on the bed kicking his shoes across the room carelessly. “If you do the work and you train, girls can be as strong and as powerful as boys. Daddy is going to teach you how to make sure you can save yourself and your mom and your dad if we ever get into trouble. Sometimes in life, trouble comes knocking. It happens. We are very rich, Kaylee. People want to take our money from us so they may try to rob us. Our first priority is always making sure that you and Mitsos and Darwin are safe. Today, I made a mistake because I left most of the security team here at the hotel to make sure you and your cousin and best friend and your Nana and Nan and Grandfather and Thisbe were all safe here and I only took a few people with me. That was my mistake thinking that I could keep your mom safe on my own. Look what happened? She needed to rescue my broken ass.‘

His words made Kaylee giggle.

“It’s not?” she was very confused as she sat next to him on the

bed.

“No because we can learn from it. We can make sure things like this never happen again. Yes it was bad and scary but now I know where the holes in my security are. I know I need to move extra people around. I know not to travel with only one car when I’m out with you and your mom. I also learned your mom is the strongest lady I know and it makes me love her so much more. She was brave and fierce and someday I know you will be just as strong as she is.”

“She really saved you?” Kaylee looked at her mother in awe, “did you kill a bad guy?”

“She did!”

“Gulliver!” January growled at him furiously.

“She needs to know her parents will kill to keep her safe.”

“Was it scary, Mom?”

“She hurt your dad and she wanted to make it so he would never see you again. Nobody is taking my family from me ever again.” January sidestepped the question.

“Mommy might have nightmares because it was scary and it’s not easy, but we’ll kiss her and make sure she knows she’s safe.”

“What if she goes to jail?” Kaylee stared at her mother
