Second Chance His Unending Love (Calista Hartwell) novel Chapter 104

Chapter 104

As evening approached, Sullivan Manor was brightly lit and filled with guests.

It was not yet time for the dinner party, but many guests had already arrived.

In a separate reception room, Serena, dressed in a dark red gown, and her husband Frank Sullivan, in a matching dark red suit, were receiving Byron and Kristen.

Byron and Kristen were seated on the sofa.

Kristen wiped her glasses. “I haven’t been one for crowds these past few years. If it weren’t for your birthday, I wouldn’t have gone out at all!”

Serena chuckled warmly, “My dear sister, thank you for coming. I know you and Byron prefer quiet, which is why I arranged for you to rest here away from the bustle. I didn’t really want such a fuss either. It’s all the children’s doing.”

Kristen said, “Fiona and Callum are good kids. You two are blessed, unlike Byron and me. When Byron and I15:50

turned sixty, that boy of ours was still off on a mission somewhere!”

Frank comforted Kristen, “Evander is just dedicated to the country. My daughter and adopted son are not as accomplished as Evander.”

Mentioning Evander, Serena quickly took Kristen’s hand.

“Kristen, I’ve been keeping Evander’s marriage prospects in mind. There are quite a few suitable and age-appropriate women for Evander here tonight. You and Byron should talk to Evander again and persuade him. I can act as a matchmaker and introduce them.”

Serena, with her kind heart, was always looking for opportunities to introduce potential girlfriends to Evander.

This time, however, Kristen and Byron both shook their heads simultaneously.

“I thank you on Evander’s behalf, but that won’t be

necessary.”

The corners of Byron’s mouth turned up uncontrollably50

a mix of relief and satisfaction.

“Evander has someone he likes.”

Serena was stunned for a moment, then broke into a wide smile. “That’s wonderful news! Which girl is it?”

Byron waved his hand. “He didn’t say, but we don’t care about her background either.”

“That’s true,” Serena said, her happiness tinged with a hint of regret. “So many women came tonight hoping to see him! Another one of New York’s most eligible bachelors is off the market!”

Kristen adjusted her glasses and said slowly, “You should focus more on Fiona’s situation.”

Serena was somewhat exasperated. “No wonder you came to the party today-you just wanted to show off…”

Oddly enough, though, all the children in their two families married late.

Evander was 42 and unmarried, Fiona was 37 and unmarried, and Callum was 35 and unmarried.

The children were in no hurry at all, but their parents were deeply worried.

Serena sometimes wondered if a curse had been placed on them.

There was a knock on the reception room door.

Then Callum walked in. He wore a simple striped shirt and brown trousers, looking clean and handsome.

“Dad, Mom, the hall is ready. You can go down whenever you like.”

“Alright, we’ll join you after chatting a little longer.”

Callum tactfully withdrew.

Kristen sighed with emotion, “Back then, to change Fiona’s fate, you adopted Callum. So many years have passed in the blink of an eye. He’s already in his thirties.”

Serena dearly loved her only precious daughter.

When Fiona was a child, she fell seriously ill. A very gifted

shaman suggested they adopt a child to alter Fiona’s destiny.

Thus, three-year-old Callum came to the Sullivan family.

Miraculously, from then on, Fiona’s health gradually/ improved.

Serena and Frank did not abandon Callum once Fiona

recovered. Instead, they raised him as their own son, as they continue to do to this day.

Callum was aware of his true origins but harbored no resentment. Over the years, he had been filial to his parents, looked after his sister, and helped manage the vast family business.

Serena smiled faintly, “Yes, Callum is a good boy. I just wish he would marry soon, too.”

At their age and social standing, their only lingering concern was their children’s happiness.

“May I ask out of curiosity.” Byron chose his words carefully. “Have you ever considered fostering feelings between Fiona and Callum?”

At this, Serena grew even more frustrated. “We thought about it a few years ago, but for some reason, they just don’t get along. They hardly even speak to each other!”

Byron was greatly disappointed. “What a pity. I thought it could have solved two problems at once.”

Evander drove Calista and Olivia to the appointment, arriving right on time.

The car got stuck near the villa, so Evander had to park elsewhere.

Calista and Olivia waited for him where they were.

While the two were chatting and laughing, a young man dressed in studded clothing approached from a distance and stopped in front of Calista.

His multi-colored hair paired with punk-style clothes made him look exactly like a street loafer.

“Austin? How… how… did you end up dressed like this?”
