Second Chance His Unending Love (Calista Hartwell) novel Chapter 120

Chapter 120

“None of that matters,” Calista said, her expression blank She glanced at the figure approaching behind Killian, and a cold smile crossed her face. “You go find your sweetheart and I’ll find my new partner. Staying out of each other’s way is the best outcome for both of us.”

Her new partner? The words hit Killian like a slap. Was she really planning to dump him and remarry someone

else?

Calista pressed her lips together and spoke again. “From now on, do your job as his guardian and keep your son in line. If you don’t get Austin under control, he’s only going to spiral further down the wrong path.”

“I admit Austin was impulsive today and I’m worried about Olivia too,” Killian said. “But you pushed him to this. If you hadn’t insisted on this divorce, none of this would’ve happened. The blame is on you.”

“Pathetic excuse for a man!” Calista’s eyes were ice cold, and her smile was pure mockery. “The real problem is he’s got a family that spoils him rotten, a father who thinks he knows everything, and a homewrecker who 5:57

enables his worst behavior. Stop trying to pin everything on me.”

Killian took a deep breath. He hesitated for a moment and then spoke up. “What if I told you Austin needs his biological mother? He can’t grow up properly without / you.”

In that moment, Killian genuinely considered reconciling. Maybe he’d realized the Frost family couldn’t function without Calista running things. Seeing her surrounded by successful men after the divorce triggered his competitive instincts. Either way, he was willing to compromise for

the sake of his son.

Calista didn’t even think twice. She turned and walked

away.

Killian reached for her, but Nicole rushed up from behind and grabbed his arm.

When she saw Calista, she glared at her like a guard dog protecting its territory.

Nicole asked, “Killian, Austin called me and said you had a leg cramp. Are you okay now?”

Killian’s tone softened, and he replied, “I’m fine.”

Nicole instantly felt more confident and turned her glare on Calista.

Nicole sneered, “Ms. Hartwell, are you regretting the divorce? I know Killian is amazing and you’ll never find anyone as good as him. But you two are done, so stop chasing after your ex-husband. It’s pathetic!”

She added, “I’ll take care of Killian. He doesn’t need you worrying about him.”

Calista suddenly stopped and pointed at the hospital

room.

Calista said coldly, “My boyfriend is in there. Maybe you should keep your dog on a leash before it bites someone.”

Nicole froze for a moment and tightened her grip on Killian’s arm.

Calista had a boyfriend?

What about Killian?

She turned and saw Killian watching his ex-wife walk into the room. His eyes stayed on her and wouldn’t look away.

She raised her hand and waved it in front of Killian’s face

Nicole called out, “Killian?”

Killian responded with a distracted hum.

Nicole’s heart sank, and she asked quietly, “Are you regretting the divorce?”

Killian’s cold arrogance returned, and he stated firmly,

“Never.”

Nicole felt relieved.

When she walked past Evander’s hospital room with Killian, she sneaked a glance inside.

Her heart skipped a beat.

It was the hot guy from the chess tournament registration.

What kind of dumb luck did Calista have to snag a man that hot?

But the silver lining was obvious. This meant Killian and Calista were done for good.

That guy might be gorgeous, but he could never match Killian’s status and wealth.

All she had to do was hold onto Killian, and she’d be set for life.

The next day at noon, Calista made some homemade chicken soup and comfort food, and she took Olivia to the hospital.

Olivia glanced at the containers Calista carried and smiled. “Mom, Mr. Hayes is going to love what you made.”

“I just want him to recover quickly,” Calista said softly.

She owed him too much. What happened last night was a complete disaster he was dragged into, through no fault

of his own. The injury to his forehead before was the same thing. He kept getting caught in the crossfire because of her.

Olivia paused, and sadness flickered in her eyes.

“I remember when we were little, Austin and I had this connection,” Olivia said quietly. “When he had nightmares, I’d wake up too. When he got sick, I could feel it. I could even find him when we played hide and seek without trying. But then something changed. He changed, and that connection we had just disappeared.”

“Olivia, don’t judge yourself by someone else’s mistakes,” Calista said firmly. “You did nothing wrong and you don’t need to blame yourself.”

“Mom, are you really done with him? What if he throws another tantrum and you feel bad for him…” Olivia’s

voice trailed off.

Calista carried the food containers in one hand and gently

brushed Olivia’s forehead with the other.

“Olivia, yesterday showed me exactly who Austin really

is.”

is, Calista said. Her voice was steady but sad. “If I could

cut that connection completely, I would. I wish I’d never given birth to him. What scares me most is that he almost hurt you.”

“Mom…” Olivia wrapped her arms around Calista and nestled into her embrace. Calista’s familiar scent washed over her, and she felt completely safe.

Olivia murmured, “I’ll be more careful from now on. I won’t make you worry anymore.”

Calista stroked her hair and said, “That’s what mothers do, sweetie. You don’t need to change anything.”

Olivia bit her lip and continued, “Then I won’t let Mr. Hayes do dangerous things for me anymore either. I don’t want you worrying about him too.”

Calista laughed softly and replied, “Silly girl, don’t tie everything together like that.”
