Second Chance His Unending Love (Calista Hartwell) novel Chapter 134

Chapter 134

Calista was taken aback for a moment, then shook her head firmly.

“That’s very kind of you, Mr. Ferrer, but we prefer to let things follow their natural course based on Olivia’s own abilities. Olivia loves chess, and I fully support her passion. Whether she becomes a champion or not, what truly matters to me is that she finds joy in the process. That’s enough,” she said, her voice calm but resolute.

Bradley knew all too well how steadfast Calista’s principles were.

He realized his own approach had been clumsy, a desperate attempt to find any way to keep them close.

A wry smile touched his lips. “Alright. Then let me at least drive you home.”

“No need, Mr. Ferrer. I drove here myself. We’ll see you at the finals tomorrow.”

With a final wave from both mother and daughter, Calista and Olivia turned and walked away.

In the parking garage, Nicole and Austin had reached the car first.

The ringtone from Nicole’s phone cut through the quiet

interior.

She answered, and a hushed voice came through the line. “Everything’s arranged.”

“Thanks, dude!” Nicole replied, a triumphant smile spreading across her face. It felt good, this taste of impending victory.

Her plans this time were foolproof, guaranteed to make the entire Frost family see her in a new light.

“What about the other thing I asked? Did you find out anything about that guy?” she asked, her tone turning

serious.

A frustrated sigh answered her, “Who even is this person? You’re asking me to track down some random nobody. There’s literally no information to find!”

Nicole tapped a finger against her chin, then let out a

derisive chuckle.

So, Calista’s new boyfriend was that pathetic? Handsome face, but absolutely nothing else-not even a small-time business owner.

That old woman, once she left Killian, really scraped the

bottom of the barrel.

Her mood lifted further. “Forget it, then. Don’t bother

now.”

With that, she ended the call.

Settling into the passenger seat, Nicole kicked off her shoes and curled her legs beneath her.

She turned to look at Austin in the back. “Just focus on playing your best tomorrow. With me handling things, that championship is as good as yours,” she said, her voice dripping with confidence.

Austin met her gaze. “Why are you helping me?”

He was still hung up on that incident at the hospital, she sould tell. Reaching back, she gave his head a light, 16:03

almost sisterly tap.

“Come on, don’t hold a grudge. We’re still friends, right? That day… I was just having a rough time. You know how it is with us girls-cramps, headaches, hormones all over the place. Makes anyone moody.”

Her explanation seemed to work. Austin’s posture relaxed, and a hint of guilt even crossed his features.

He’d been selfish, making her run errands for him when she wasn’t feeling well.

“Are you… feeling better now?” he asked, concern softening his voice.

“Give me a smile, and I will be,” Nicole teased.

A genuine, handsome grin broke through. “Nicole, when

I give my winner’s speech tomorrow, I’m definitely thanking you.”

“Good boy,” Nicole smiled, satisfied.

The rebellious teenager was neatly wrapped around her

finger again.

Remembering the phone call, she decided to probe a little. “Hey, Austin. That boyfriend of your mom’s… do you know much about him? What’s his deal?”

It couldn’t hurt to gather a bit more intel for Stephanie.

At the mention of the man, Austin’s demeanor shifted instantly.

The smile vanished, replaced by a brooding silence. His lips pressed, and he turned to stare stubbornly out the

window.

“What’s wrong? Don’t want to talk about it?” Nicole pressed gently, playing the concerned confidante. “You can tell me. Maybe I can help.”

“He’s just… whatever. Nothing worth saying,” Austin muttered, his voice thick with suppressed emotion.

Nicole studied him. The resentment and frustration plain on the young man’s face were easy to interpret-clear

disdain and dislike for his mother’s choice.

A faint, almost imperceptible smile touched her lips.

If Austin hated the guy so much that he wouldn’t even talk about him, that man must be real trash.

Nicole said breezily, shifting topics, “Well, don’t let it bother you. I called in a favor. Sir Wesley has agreed to attend the match as a guest. I’m sure Mr. Ferrer will / invite him on stage to present the champion’s trophy and
