Chapter 14 The Embarrassing Mom

Charles had asked a hundred times already, “Did you get in touch with him yet?”

Jennifer clutched her phone and was sweating bullets. “I’ve tried so many times. His mom didn’t know anything about this, so she gave me his dad’s number, but nobody’s picking up.”

Charles ground his teeth together. “Have the host go stall for time. We’ll push the awards part back.”

At 9:30, a black Audi was speeding down the road.

Nicole sat in the front seat. Killian and Austin were in the back.

Killian had only found out about today’s ceremony when he got a text from the teacher.

He could skip other school events, but something that made the Frost family look good? No way he was missing that.

“But I didn’t even prepare a speech!” Austin sounded panicked.

he have remembered to write a speech?

Calista usually took care of these things ahead of time.

Nicole waved her hand dismissively. “Don’t worry about it. I

can write you something on the spot!”

Austin hesitated. “You think that’ll work?”

“Did you forget what I do? I graduated with a degree in PR.

This kind of thing is easy for me!”

Austin trusted Nicole completely, so he just focused on

straightening out his clothes. Then something occurred to

him.

“Dad, my mom’s not gonna show up, is she?”

He only wanted Nicole and Killian there with him. If Calista suddenly appeared, it would totally ruin everything.

Nicole kept typing out the speech on her phone. “Your mom’s probably gonna be there, right? What parent wouldn’t want to show off when their kid placed first in the whole city?”

Austin made a face. “Well, I’m not sitting with her.”

“You guys got here just in time. Austin’s about to give his speech. Make sure you remind Calista not to say anything stupid when the reporters interview her.”

Austin kept his head down and wiped the sweat off his forehead. “They’re gonna interview her? Dad, can I have Nicole do it instead?”

Killian was adjusting his sleeves. “Whatever you want.”

The parents in the back rows exchanged looks.

“Austin must be a big deal, showing up this late.”

“Well, top students are busy. Are those his parents?”

“No way. That girl looks like she’s in her early twenties, barely
