Chapter 27
Calista’s laugh softened, now tinged with pure relief.
“I don’t need your sympathy. The worst, darkest days of my life are over. I never knew hardship before I met you. But after marrying you, the pain you brought me was endless. Thank goodness I’m finally free.”
She paused, taking a deep breath. Now that she’d started, she might as well say everything that had been weighing on
her.
“Killian, you’re a success by the world’s standards. But as a husband, you’re a complete failure. You don’t know how to nurture our family or how to respect your wife. A man like you
doesn’t deserve true love.”
Killian couldn’t remember the last time he and Calista had
talked this much.
It surprised him that she’d been harboring so much
resentment toward him.
Killian picked up the crumpled medical reports and flipped through a few pages. Then it hit him—he’d seen tho pill 5:28

However, he’d thought they were just anti-aging vitamins, so he’d never paid them any mind.
It was her fault for not saying anything. How could he be blamed for not knowing?
At the end of the day, all Calista wanted was for him to dote on her like a lovesick teenager, wasn’t she?
She was too old for such childish games.
Killian crushed the reports in his fist, his explanation coming
out stiff and awkward.
“Nothing happened between Nicole and me. You really don’t
have to make such a big deal out of it. If you want to be
intimate, all you have to do is ask.”
Calista let out a sharp, mocking laugh. Was that really what
she cared about?
“Cheating isn’t just about sleeping with someone else.
It’s about indulging her without boundaries, sharing your deepest thoughts with her instead of me, and leaving your sick wife at home to travel with her. That you thought about
her every night hurt our marriage more.”

Killian tried to defend himself, his voice rising with frustration, “Even if all that’s true, I never once thought about divorcing you. Can’t you see how much you mean to me?”
Calista had seen through him a long time ago. A heart that had been shattered into a million pieces couldn’t be glued back together by empty words like that.
“The only reason you don’t want a divorce is that I handle all your life’s messy details, letting you focus on work. We’re equals-we just have different roles. You earn more, but that doesn’t make my contributions worth less. You don’t respect me, and Austin’s followed your lead, treating me with nothing but contempt. This marriage was doomed from the start.”
She took a shaky breath, her eyes turning teary-eyed, glistening with unshed tears that finally spilled over her
cheeks.
Calista closed her eyes for a moment, then exhaled slowly, releasing the pain and bitterness she’d held for years. When she opened them, her gaze was clear and bright, filled with
new freedom.
“Killian, if I could go back in time, I would never have
confessed my love to you.”

A flicker of something unfamiliar crossed Killian’s icy gaze.
Memories flooded his mind-memories of a shy young girl
clutching a love letter, her eyes shining with nothing but
adoration for him.
Calista had loved him deeply, that much he’d always been
certain of.
She was just angry now, so angry that she wasn’t thinking straight.
No one else in this world would put up with her nonsense as
he did.
“Fine. Then remember this-there are no do-overs in life.”
Killian turned on his heel and marched down the steps, striding past Calista without a second glance.
He didn’t stop until he reached Olivia’s side.
“Olivia, you can come home anytime you want. The door will always be open for you.”
Olivia took a step back, shaking her head firmly. 4/7

“Dad, you and Mom were in love once, weren’t you? You cut off her financial support, and even resorted to force to make her sign that retraction statement. That was a really terrible thing to do.”
“Olivia, if I hadn’t forced your mother to come home, you’d be out there living a life of poverty,” Killian argued, his voice softening with exasperation.
“There were so many other ways to get her to come home. But you chose to hurt her instead.”
Killian was left speechless.
He thought she’d been completely brainwashed by Calista.
Still, she was his own flesh and blood. He couldn’t bring
himself to scold her.
“Olivia, I won’t stop you from going with your mother. But I
have to warn you-without the resources and opportunities the Frost family provides, your grades will definitely drop.”
Tutoring sessions, training camps, extracurricular classes- Olivia and Austin had had access to all of them since they
were little.

The teachers’ special attention, the students’ willingness to help-all of it had been bought with money.
Without that financial support, how could Olivia possibly maintain her excellent grades?
She was too young to understand these harsh realities of life. He had to spell it out for her, plain and simple.
Killian said, “Do you know why you had such a grand escort today? Why did military personnel come to pick you up for an
exam?”
