Second Chance His Unending Love (Calista Hartwell) novel Chapter 74

Chapter 74

“I just wanted to ask if that pink-blue diamond was pretty. I’ve never seen such an expensive gem before!”

She thought she’d made herself clear enough this time,’ but Killian was gritting his teeth and seemed even

angrier.

“Threw it out.”

“Huh?”

“If there’s nothing else, get some rest.” Killian hung up

without hesitation.

Austin awkwardly put his phone away and started moving more carefully. His dad had just gone out for a bit. Why was he so angry when he came back?

All because he saw Olivia’s post about some stupid chess pieces? Is it really that serious?

The next day at noon, Evander returned to Stillwater Bayo

and stopped by the Hartwell Manor. He’d kept in touch with the Hartwells over the years, and visiting them felt as casual as going home.

Elena had long gotten used to it and would greet him every time, treating him more warmly than her own son.

“Mrs. Hartwell, you look wonderful today. That lavender really suits you.”

“You think so?” Elena touched her updo and adjusted her silk shawl, once again the elegant lady who loved looking

her best.

She’d been in a good mood lately and had gotten her hair and nails done, and even had several dresses custom-made. “When you’re in a good mood, you just want to dress yourself up.”

Evander set the gift he’d brought on the coffee table. and sat down without waiting for Elena to say anything. “Once you let go of what was weighing on you, how could you not feel good?”

Elena’s eyes twitched into a warm smile. “You’re the only one who gets me! Olivia got divorced, and I’ve been 15:40

laughing in my sleep these past few days.” Someone who didn’t know better would think she was talking about a wedding.

Evander nodded calmly.

Elena seemed to remember something and quickly changed the subject, looking at the elegant gift box on the coffee table with playful reproach. “You didn’t have to bring anything. Why do you keep doing this?”

“It’s for Mr. Hartwell. He’ll definitely like it.”

“If only that foul-mouthed brat of mine were as thoughtful as you.”

Evander nodded. “He does have a sharp tongue.”

As they were talking, a servant walked in carrying several invitations. “Mrs. Hartwell, the Ferrer family just sent

these over.”

“More invitations?” Elena took them with a troubled

expression.

She didn’t even need to look to know they’d either be

inviting her over to catch up or asking to visit.

She set the invitations on the coffee table with a sigh. “I don’t know what’s going on lately, but we’ve been getting so many of these. I’m an introvert, you know. I don’t want to socialize with all those people.”

Evander found it amusing to hear a woman nearly seventy using such trendy slang. He picked up one of the invitations and glanced through it casually.

His eyes narrowed slightly and a chill ran down his spine. He suddenly felt an inexplicable sense of alarm.

Could these invitations from wealthy ladies be aimed at

Calista?

“Mrs. Hartwell, there’s more on the back of this one.”

He showed Elena the text on the back of the invitation.

“The Ferrer family is hosting a youth chess tournament and they’re inviting young people from all over the city to participate.”

Elena took a look. “Wow, the prize money’s pretty

generous.”

Evander didn’t understand. The Ferrer family had never hosted anything like this before and had no connection to chess tournaments. Why were they suddenly organizing a chess competition?

While he was thinking, Kyle came down the stairs wearing pink-blue slippers and looking lazy. “You’re

here.”

Kyle’s expression was ice-cold as he casually greeted Evander. After so many years of friendship, they were close enough that formalities weren’t necessary.

In fact, as soon as Kyle came downstairs, he opened the gift Evander had brought right in front of him.

Elena scolded him, “Kyle, you are not a child anymore. Where are your manners?”

“Why be so formal with Evander? He’s not an outsider!” Kyle said.

Evander raised an eyebrow. Now that was something he liked to hear. He wasn’t an outsider, and he wanted to be family with them!

Kyle looked up and shot Evander a brotherly look before continuing, “This is my brother from another parents!”

Evander fell silent.

Who the hell wants to be your brother?

Kyle kept his attention fixed on the vase and didn’t notice the shift in Evander’s expression, not until he spotted the signature on the piece. “Bro, you’re amazing! This is a Master Plumon original! Dad and Calista are gonna love you for this.”
