Chapter 193 No Way Out
Finished
Julian looked at her calmly. “So you want me to start doing those things instead?”
Quinn panicked. “No, that’s not what I meant. I only acted like that because I was drunk.”
Julian’s voice cooled again. “Being drunk doesn’t make it okay. So if I go get drunk right now, does that mean I get to do whatever I want too?”
That left her completely speechless.
Frustration and embarrassment mixed together, and she blurted out, “Then what are you doing right now? You’re already doing whatever you want.”
She tried to pull her foot back again.
Julian didn’t stop her this time, but he said, “Careful, you’re going to pull your stitches.”
Pain shot through her abdomen instantly.
She gasped and froze, not daring to move again.
Julian watched her, then said calmly, “Forget about hiring someone. You can if you want, but I’m not
leaving. If you’re fine with me taking care of you in front of them, then go ahead.”
Quinn’s eyes filled with frustration, almost to the point of tears.
“Can you please not do this?”

“What do you mean don’t do that?” Julian-said, his tone calm but pressing. “You touched me, held me, kissed me. When I told you to stop, you didn’t.”
“I was drunk.” Quinn said, her voice tight with frustration. “I couldn’t control myself. That’s not the same thing.”
“Then let’s just say I’m not exactly thinking straight right now either,” Julian replied, reaching out and taking hold of her ankle again. “I’m not in control.”
Quinn finally snapped. “Julian, are you serious right now? You’re really going to play it like that?”
Hearing his name in her voice sent a quiet sense of satisfaction through him.
He wasn’t rushing this. He would shift things slowly, let her get used to him, let her stop pulling away every time he got close.
Getting her to say his name naturally was only the beginning.
“Yeah.” Julian said, a faint smile forming. “Guess I am.”
“You…” Quinn was flustered, annoyed, and completely stuck.
Flat on her back in a hospital bed, she had nowhere to go, no way to win the argument, and no way out of the situation.
If anyone had told her Julian could act like this, she never would have believed it.
“It’s settled,” Julian said.
“No, it’s not,” Quinn shot back immediately. “That’s not happening. It’s way too awkward, and it makes everything complicated…”
Julian looked at her, amused. “Complicated? You’ve already held me and kissed me. What exactly is complicated now?”
Quinn turned her face into the pillow, pressing her cheek hard against it like she could hide inside it. “Can you not say that out loud? It’s not happening, okay?”
Julian let out a low laugh. “So now I’m the unreasonable one?”
“Julian,” Quinn said, forcing herself to stay composed, “I’m married. This is not okay.”
“Kissing me was okay?”
“1..”
She bad no answer.
She took a breath, trying to steady herself. “At least no one else knew about that. But if you stay here and take care of me, people are going to notice, Julian, don’t mess up your reputation because of me.”

“Wow.” Julian said lightly, “still thinking about me at a time like this. That’s nice. But you don’t need to worry. No one’s going to say anything”
She knew that was true.
No one would dare say anything to his face.
“That doesn’t mean they won’t think it,” Quinn insisted. “Someone like you…”
“That’s not true.” Julian cut in, his voice quieter now. “There are things I can’t justify, not even to myself.”
Like wanting her when she was still married.
By any reasonable standard, he should have stayed far away until he was divorced.
But he couldn’t.
Quinn tried to speak again, but Julian didn’t give her the chance. “Just focus on getting better. Don’t worry about anything else.”
She shut her eyes, frustrated, biting down on the inside of her cheek.
I need to call Lucy tomorrow. No matter what, I can’t let this keep going.
Even having Lucy stay with her would be better than this.
Right now, she wasn’t even properly dressed, and there were medical tubes attached to her.
The thought alone made her feel humiliated.
“Julian,” she said again, opening her eyes, her voice softer now, almost pleading, “this really isn’t okay. I can’t let you take care of me, I…”
Julian studied her expression and said plainly, “You’re embarrassed.”
Quinn’s irritation flared again. “We don’t have that kind of relationship. How is this okay?”
“So what we did before counts as nothing to you?” Julian asked, looking at her. “Then there’s nothing to be embarrassed about.”
She tried to argue, but he added, more bluntly this time, “I’ve already seen you. What exactly are you embarrassed about?”
“Julian!”
Now she was genuinely angry. The moment he said it, Julian knew he had gone too far.
It was true, but she was still recovering. He shouldn’t have pushed her like that.
“You said you were getting divorced.” Julian said, his tone casing. “That’s the only reason I got close to you.
If you were happy with Chase, if you actually loved him, I wouldn’t have stepped in.”

“I don’t want this,” Quinn said through clenched teeth. “I told you, I don’t like you…”
Flushed
“Yeah.” Julian said, his voice calm again. “You don’t like me, and yet you held me and kissed me.” He lightly squeezed her toes. “You’re not convincing me.”
“I’m not lying!” Quinn said, her face burning. “I told you, I was drunk. It wouldn’t have mattered who it was, I would’ve…”
“Don’t say that,” Julian cut in, his expression turning serious. “Quinn, I don’t believe you’d do that with just anyone.”
She bit down hard, her jaw tightening.
He wasn’t wrong.
She couldn’t.
And maybe, somewhere deep down, she hadn’t wanted to stop.
But that was exactly the problem.
She couldn’t let herself fall into that.
“You don’t know me,” Quinn said, forcing herself to sound calm. “Fine, I’ll be honest. You’re tall, you’re attractive, and I figured I wasn’t exactly losing anything.”
Julian let out a quiet laugh. “That’s your explanation?”
“It means what it sounds like,” Quinn said, pushing through. “As long as someone looks good, I don’t mind. That’s who I am. I married Chase because he was good-looking. Now I’ve realized you look even better, so yeah, I lost control for a second.”
