Ingrid's statement was the truth. She had already begun to imitate Angeline before she even faced Ned.
That was because she deeply envied the legendary love between Angeline and Ned. She felt she could experience the same love if she could be like Angeline.
At Oceanford High School, she wasn't the only one who had thought that way. Almost all the girls in the years below Angeline shared the same thought.
After Angeline and Ned left for Oceanford University, it became a trend for students at Oceanford High School to imitate them.
Although the boys did not have the same family background as Ned did, they tried their best to emulate Ned's deep feelings toward his girlfriend and his devil-may-care swagger.
The girls did not have Angeline's brains, so they tried to mirror how calm and unruffled she was.
Ingrid's tears fell down her cheeks like strings of broken pearls.
She had always been terrified that Ned would choose Angeline if he recovered his memories one day, and in her heart, she had kept rehearsing her next steps if he did. She had decided to give them her blessing and leave coolly if he chose Angeline after regaining his memories.
However, when Ned finally asked her if she had been imitating Angeline from the beginning, Ingrid still felt pain so deep that she could barely control herself despite rehearsing her response so often.
Perhaps she had always known that she had only managed to steal Ned's love from Angeline because of her impersonation of Angeline.
However, she still held on to a shred of hope. As she gradually became her true self, Ned's love for her had not decreased. Thus, she believed Ned had ultimately fallen in love with her.
After all, Ned and Angeline had often fought when they were together, but Ned never raised his voice at Ingrid.
Ingrid hadn't realized then that Ned had never been angry at her because, subconsciously, he was projecting his guilt toward Angeline onto her.
"Ned, what does this have to do with Ms. Dalton? You were the one who lost your memories and fell in love with her. You can't blame other people!"
Gregory had seen how fond Ned was of Ingrid. Now that Ned was accusing her after recovering his memories, Gregory couldn't help but feel indignant on Ingrid's behalf.
"I'm sorry!"
