Angeline nodded, her cheeks blushing.
"Alright, Marion. I know what to do. You should go home and rest now."
"Call me if you need any relationship advice," Marion offered.
"Although my only experience is with Reese, I'm an expert in reasoning!"
"Okay, Marion. Goodnight!"
Angeline hung up the phone and looked out the window.
It was already nighttime in Krontos, the right time for bright lights to illuminate the city.
Angeline checked her phone, and as Marion said, Sean hadn't reached out to her—not even a call or a message.
She wondered if he was playing hard to get and wasn't simply bored of her.
Angeline felt that she had to distract herself from Sean. After she had changed, she opened the door and saw Lenny standing outside.
"Have you had your dinner?" Angeline asked.
"No, I haven't."
Lenny shook his head in confusion.
"Come. Let's go get something!" Angeline offered.
Lenny quickly walked to the elevator and pressed the button before asking, "Where are you going, Ms. Emmerson?"
"Do you have any recommendations? I'm not familiar with this area," Angeline replied.
Lenny answered in embarrassment, "I don't think the place I frequent would suit someone like you, Ms. Emmerson."
"Is it street food? Or fast-food chains?"
Angeline walked into the elevator and said with a gentle smile, "Don't worry, you can take me there. I enjoy those kinds of food."
Lenny brought Angeline to a slightly secluded place that sold street food. Although the environment wasn't the best—judging from the numerous potholes accumulating water on the road—many luxurious cars parked opposite the road.
"This stall smells amazing!"
Lenny said, "Let's eat here."
After they finished their meal, Lenny insisted on paying for it.
"You were startled last night because I left early. Even though you and Mr. Powell don't blame me, I still feel guilty. So please, this dinner is on me!"
After three jugs of draft beer, Angeline stood by the roadside feeling slightly tipsy. She didn't notice Ned watching her from a black Jeep Wrangler parked on the opposite side of the road.
Ned wondered if Lenny was Angeline's new boyfriend.
Gregory had told him that Angeline was taken away from the fight by her new boyfriend last night.
A taxi sped by on the road, running over puddles of water.
"Watch out!"
Lenny, who just finished paying the bill, grabbed Angeline by the shoulder and turned around to shield her.
The water splashed all over Lenny's back.
