"Take her out of here! Are you deaf?" Robert yelled at Asher.
Afraid that Robert might accidentally hurt Angeline, Sean quickly got up by supporting himself on the coffee table, pulled her into his arms, and dragged her to the kitchen.
"Wait here," he said, comforting her while holding onto the back of her head.
"Be good."
He then looked toward Asher and instructed, "Watch her until I return."
Asher nodded in acknowledgment.
After Sean left to return to the living room, he said to Angeline, "Ms. Angeline, I've been working for Mr. Lawson Senior for decades. So, please heed my advice. The more you try to defend Mr. Lawson now, the angrier he will get.
"Based on his character, he will surely hear you out, but you must let him let off some steam first."
Remembering the cane that landed heavily on Sean's back earlier, she closed her eyes and held onto the kitchen counter to support her weight. She pursed her lips, her heart brimming with many regrets.
She had forgotten her place of late. She knew how things would have ended if people learned about their relationship, yet she allowed herself to be complacent.
Meanwhile, Sean returned to the living room and kneeled before Robert, whose face remained angry.
Robert asked, "So, you'd rather take a beating from me than break up with Angeline?"
"I owe you my life, and I know doing this is unfair to you. All my life, I've wanted very little. But Angeline is what I want to fight for with all my might," Sean answered.
