Mallory turned around in a huff, pulled open the car door, and got in. She felt so aggrieved that her eyes turned red.
She knew that Angeline didn't want to acknowledge her, but she was doing all this for Miles, who had been protecting her ever since they were young. They weren't kids anymore. She couldn't fathom why he was trying to hold onto his pride when it would affect the business.
Angeline and Sean sat down to order. Looking through the menu, Sean suddenly said, "Those friends of you and Ned seem pretty loyal. They actually came all the way to Krontos just because Ned is in hospital."
Angeline looked up at Sean, who was studying the menu intently. She laughed nonchalantly. "They're Ned's friends, not mine."
It had taken her time to realize that people from different worlds would never be friends.
"The one called Miles told you that Ned is in hospital. Don't you have anything you want to ask? After all, didn't Ned purposely come last night to tell you that Helen approached him and asked him to work with her?"
Angeline closed the menu she was holding. Suppressing her laughter, she asked Sean in a low voice, "Are you testing me? You want to see if I still have feelings for Ned?"
"I don't even want you to feel grateful to him." Sean had his eyes fixed on the menu, but the trace of possessiveness in his words was evident.
Angeline couldn't help grinning as she nodded. "Alright. I got it."
There was a hint of a smile in Sean's eyes under his glasses. Again, Angeline gave in to his request.
Sean's phone vibrated in his pocket. He took it out, glanced at it, then answered the call, "Hello…"
His expression darkened when he heard what the person on the other end had to say.
